I'll disagree with you to an extent here. People wanted to be overly cautious so they gathered in huge groups raising Walmart and grocery stores, lowes and home depot clustering themselves together creating the closeness that helps this thing spread.  in a desire to isolate themselves people did the exact opposite

Are you talking about in the very beginning? Yeah those people don’t read/watch world news. Anyone following this in China knew it was a matter of time that this was gonna be bad here and I urged others in my social circles to start preparing. I got called crazy then people flocked to those places in huge numbers. I thankfully got my old mother to cancel her trip to Peru days before lockdowns and quarantines. Others on that same trip went and got stuck for months by armed guards in quarantine. Hopefully Americans realize now that we are not immune to what happens worldwide. Because this won’t be the last pandemic and it’s possible the next ones will be worse.

If you are old or have issues, take care of yourself.  We have known this since January and done little with it besides the huge social experiment and failure of trying to isolate everyone which was doomed from the beginning.

Not bashing you, but I don't see the significance of Schefter's report. They can be teammates, but can't eat together?

The NFL needs to learn very quickly that Coronavirus has an incubation period and to put player safety first. 

Tennessee Titans players are STILL testing positive for Coronavirus.

My take on the report is that it is good news that the transmission likely occurred outside of the facility which means protocols are likely being followed in NE and the chances of a team wide breakout is reasonably low.

Also, that it was irresponsible for Gilmore to play when he had close, maskless contact with a confirmed positive for an extended period of time. The test that came back positive for Cam was taken Friday morning and the results came in on Saturday morning. So Cam was unknowingly positive at the time of the dinner and that should have been reported to someone who should have made the decision to hold out Gilmore. That failure was either on the players, the team or the league so I won’t assign blame until more info is known.

I haven’t seen anyone say that they shouldn’t have been allowed to eat together.

Titans are a mess.  I doubt they play again this week.  

NFL already played w/ the bye weeks.  So the Titans will actually be a big hurdle for the NFL to deal w/ this week.  Forfeit? Or are they going to extend the season?

I think the significance of the report has to do with the NFL and the Patriots not doing proper contact tracing and quarantine. Everyone in the public eye from sports to politics/government are so obsessed with "testing" they are flat out ignoring and diminishing the importance of quarantining after a contact has been traced. Even if they never test positive if someone has been in contact they are suppose to quarantine for 10 days at the minimum. If regular old blue-collar factory worker came in contact with someone who tested positive they will be sent home to quarantine if the company applies the rules correctly. Such as when all those chicken factories were shutting down.

The NFL completely failed here by letting the game happen just 2 days after the positive test. It shows the did not apply any proper contact tracing and therefore could not have applied proper quarantining. The only other alternative is both Cam and Gilmore failed to mention they didn't have dinner but that doesn't really even apply here because like you said they were still present in team activities together.

This is 100% on the NFL and by associate the patriots. If I was the NFLPA i'd be demanding a 2 week mandatory quarantine with no team actives league wide. If they keep pushing the buck the chance the season is cancelled for good becomes greater and greater. Preemptive vs. reactive, in medicine preemptive is

It was already established that Gilmore was one of the 20 players that they designated to have "close contact with Newton." That's why Gilmore was placed on the "contact with Newton" plane prior to their game against the chiefs. I feel like Schefter is carrying water for the league and trying to absolve them from blame of this mess.

CDC guidelines suggests that you should quarantine for 14 days after being exposed to someone who has tested positive for Coronavirus. 

The game shouldn't have been played.

I mean the league is threatening forfeit but I find that to be absolutely a passing of the buck if they even have the balls to do it. The league itself has to take responsibility, they should be the ones monitoring everything and taking responsibility for when it fails. The other leagues did, looking at you NBA and NHL. 

I mean how hard is it to assign a third party doctor and a few staffers to monitor each team at all times. I'm sure they have dozens of extra medical staff administering these tests.

I think they all should quarantine and find a way to extend the season.

If they don't quarantine now I'd be a lot more concerned about the remainder of the season. I get they are probably trying to get the most games they can in now incase they need to do a short season/bubble playoff thing. But if they just did things right they wouldn't have to worry about that at all. sigh.
