I don't understand the comparison between Simmons and Chinn in terms of our picks, Derrick Brown vs Simmons was the argument, we would've got Chinn anyway had we picked Simmons. 

 

I don’t think we would have drafted Chinn if we already had Simmons. Too many other needs like our defensive line without Brown. However we aren’t afraid to double dip... CMC, Samuel and Star, KK.

Even though he'll be more than deserving on his current trajectory, I think he'll need to start racking up some splash plays to become a contender (sacks, INTs, FFs, etc.).  Tackles aren't usually all that sexy in the NFL to most people.  If it ends up being Chinn's 100+ tackles against Young's 10 sacks for example, I think it'll be an uphill climb.  I know it's only a matter of time before he gets home on a blitz though.

If Jeremy can continue leading in tackling while racking up 3 or 4 sacks and a couple of INTs then he just might be the favorite. A touchdown wouldn't hurt either.

For reference Luke had 164 comb tackles, 2 ints, 7 pd, 1 sack, 12 TFL when he won DROY

Chinn is looking at 140 Comb tackles, 0 int, 0 PD, 0 sack, 4 TFL

Like others have said, Chinn will need some splash stats to be in the DPOY running. INTs, sacks, forced fumbles, etc. Just piling up tackles won't do it.

I love me some Jeremy Chinn. Quickly becoming one of my favorites!

But Antonie Winfield Jr is far ahead of him stat wise, at least for what will win him DROY. Now Granted, a strip sack and another big tackle game against ATL it gets closer so it certainly isn't out of the question. But right now? Numbers say Winfield Jr.

Winfield - 25 Tackles, 2 sacks, 1TFL, 1 FF.

Chinn - 35 Tackles, 0 sacks, 1 TFL, 0 FF.

We've played 4 games and you concluded he won't get asack or an interception all season? 

Luke had his ints in game 5 and 16. His sack in game 12 and didn't start racking up tackles until game 5.

Just for reference as I said.  He will need numbers similar to that to be DROY.  As for the numbers I credited Chinn with, I just extrapolated his current numbers over 16 games.  No where did I say that those are the numbers I predict he will have at the end of the year
