I'm not really a Hurney defender, but sometimes the amount of hoops people jump through to make him look bad is rediculous.

Same...I genuinely don't care whether we keep Hurney or not, but I probably come across as the world's #1 Hurney fan just because I constantly see so many bad-faith arguments on here that I feel the need to push back on them every once in a while.

With regards to Hurney, people are now saying he doesn't deserve much credit for the moves he made because the staff pushed those moves.  That's fine, you can say that.  It's a legit position to take.

However, if you take that position, you must *also* own the position that Hurney's past moves may well have been equally influenced by past staff.  You can't have it both ways unless you simply have an agenda.

If both of those are true, then what you really have in Hurney is a GM who listens heavily to his staff.  Under that lens, does it then make sense some of the crazy contracts we gave players who *were* staff favorites but probably shouldn't have gotten them?  Hurney sort of alluded to something like that in a press conference where he said that in the past he let his feelings play too much part in his decisions.

Keep him or don't.  I really don't care.  But treat the discussion fairly.

We had a good offseason, and Hurney was a part of it.  Regardless of who was responsible and in what proportions, at this point I'm happy with the outcome.  I'm a fan of the PANTHERS, not Marty, or Matt or even Tepper.

Same for me. How is Hurney to blame for Cam's shoulder injury in 2018 and then Liz Frank in 2019. He's not without his faults but ever thing has not been a personnel issue, some losses  like the Super Bowl were due to being out schemed and coached.

During the offseason all you heard was we're going to suck, the worst roster in the league, how does Hurney have a job. Now that we look competitive and hit on some free agents and the draft picks, it's like well Hurney didn't play a role in any of this.

Amen...those people saying "well Rhule and co. heavily influenced these decisions" - yeah, no sh%$....same as EVERY OTHER year with Fox and Rivera.  If people want to argue that Hurney unilaterally made every draft pick/FA acquisition in the Fox/Rivera days but he's conceding everything to Rhule this year, then that's bad faith or sheer stupidity and there's no point in arguing with those people.  It is so obviously always a collaborative, synergistic relationship between the HC and GM.  The difference is, Rhule actually knows how to identify and develop talent.  Ron and John wouldn't know talent if it backhanded them across the face.  When they had talented players, they would often sit on the bench until an injury occurred and forced their hand.

Hurney should absolutely get a large share of the blame for his previous failures with regards to drafting and signing duds, but his history with Fox and Rivera have little bearing on the present considering how much collaboration goes on between a head coach and a GM.  That's why incessantly pounding the "FIRE HURNEY!!!" drum makes no sense on the heels of what appears to be an incredible draft and some huge FA signings.  Whether you want to credit Hurney or Rhule with our offseason isn't even particularly relevant...what's relevant is that whatever role they played, they work well together as a unit.  Even if that means Hurney is the biggest "Yes man" that just concedes everything to Rhule, then hell yeah Hurney just sit there looking pretty and let Rhule do everything if that's what has ultimately resulted in this fresh exciting influx of new talent.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hurney has typically been bad in FA.

The fact that the panthers did well in FA this year points towards the new guys more than it does Hurney suddenly getting his act together.

Greg Olsen for a 3rd round pick might have been the best trade in Panther's history.
