Why Winning Now Will Cost Us About 15 Years

Again Rogers was the 2nd QB taken and we should have taken him in the top 10 over TD.

Mahomes was taken 10th and we should have taken him over CMC.

Russ was taken late because at the time teams were afraid of small QBs. Well now with him, Kyler, Patrick and Drew that misnomer is out of the window so we won't get that same opportunity.

So tell me where is our guy going to come from?Where's our Russ. Our Aaron?

Look if Teddy proves me wrong I'll be ecstatic but I've seen nothing yet that wows me.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

Rexamine your own comments and what the underlying facts tell you. NFL teams aren't nearly as good as they'd like you to believe at assessing talent with precision and no matter what it's a bit of a crapshoot. Hindsight is 20/20, but the reality is time and again a significant portion of the league fails to snap up an elite qb in the draft until later in the process, sometimes much later.

If NFL teams were genuinely good enough at properly assessing talent and other factors like luck and the right organizational fit didn't play a part, then how do you explain game manager Alex Smith going number one overall and 23 teams passing on Aaron Rogers before the Packers drafted him at 24 when both were considered potential top picks prior to the draft?

Uncertainty and the inexact nature of drafting means tanking is pointless because you'll always have a chance that is not hugely different from every other team as long as you have a first round pick.

I could definitely see the Panthers, with Bridgewater, being season champions and then choking in the playoffs a la Alex Smith Chiefs.
Packers or Seahawks are my favorites to make the Super Bowl this year.
I doubt we’ll extend Bridgewater until after his 3rd season.
By then we may have our team ready, kinda like the Chiefs with Mahomes, and can take a risk trading up for a QB if we need one.

This is the worst kind of revisionist history. Rogers was drafted in 2005, we were one year removed from a Superbowl and had a QB that had made the Pro Bowl the previous year without his best receiver. Rodgers got passed over by 23 other teams, including the one picked at the top. And who even knows if Rodgers would have developed under QB gurus like John Fox, Dan Henning, and Jeff Davidson. We also didn't draft in the top 10 year year

The year we drafted Mahomes, we were also one year removed from a Super Bowl with literally the best QB in the entire league. Who knows if Mahomes would have developed under QB gurus like Ron Rivera and Mike Shula.

As for Russ, again, no one thought of him as an elite QB that would succeed in the pros. He was drafted after Brandon Weeden and Brock Osweiler and the Seahawks just took him as a developmental guy (because they thought they had their guy in Matt Flynn).

Also you just called 6'3" Patrick Mahomes a small quarterback. Stop posting. You're in over your head.

this is what happens when you make a conclusion before doing any research and then only accept information that agrees with you.  its called confirmation bias.

also, you believing trevor will win a SB in 5 years is an absolutely meaningless statement.  it literally has 0 meaning.   as an example i will say that i believe cthulu will appear within 5 years and destroy all bad people and institutions - prove me wrong.  you can't because it was a meaningless statement.

You're assuming that drafting a great QB guarantees success. It doesn't. YA Tittle, Dan Fouts, Fran Tarkenton, Dan Marino, Sonny Jurgenson, Warren Moon, and a couple of others were considered top QB's in their time and made the Hall of Fame. None of them ever won a Super Bowl. Several never even played in a SB. It takes more than one guy. I've yet to see a QB go on the field and beat the 11 guys on the other side by himself. Teams win super bowls.

You're also  assuming that the Panther can't find a QB in another draft. Several people act is if we don't get Trevor Lawrence or Justin Field this year (2021 draft) then we're doomed.  There is no guarantee either of those guys is going to be great. Pun-dents  said Andrew Luck was the best prospect since Peyton Manning. Indy even let Manning go in order to draft Luck.  Luck never made it to a SB. Injuries played a huge part in that, but he also never was able to beat NE in the playoffs. Guess why? NE had the better and more complete team. Manning himself took years to win a SB. Then he lost two. Then he was able to ride an very  strong defense to a SB win in 2015; a game that we should have won going away if we had better coaching and brought our a-game.

Look at this list of guys who have won SB's and look at where they were drafted

2nd round: Drew Brees, Brett Favre

3rd round: Joe Montana, Russell Wilson, Jeff Hostetler

6th round: Mark Rypien, Tom Brady

9th round: Brad Johnson

Undrafted: Kurt Warner.

All of these guys won SB's (16 in total) and each one was able to do so because they had a strong team behind them. I'd much rather see Rhule put a strong team together and draft a QB (or sign a good FA) than draft a QB in the top of the draft  have and have him struggle for years because of a sorry supporting cast.
