When CMC comes back

I don’t think you can get anyone to give you enough picks to warrant that trade. Herschel Walker  trade will not happen again.

Miami, Jacksonville, and the Jets all have multiple 2021 first round picks. I'd start sniffing there.

Send me two of them and some players to help us win now and moving forward, and CMC can see 'em see him later.

Trading CMC would be insane.  We drafted him for exactly what he has given us.

I will be more disappointed if Brady doesn't come up with ways to keep Davis and CMC on the field at the same time.  Davis has proven he's not going down on first contact and if defenses are worried about CMC, Davis is going to have some big runs.

When CMC comes back I’m giving him some looks in the slot with Davis in the backfield.

Four wide with CMC in the slot against a linebacker or safety with Davis in the backfield has to have Brady licking his chops.

CMC is still the primary ball carrier but he is a matchup nightmare

I disagree. We’re able to milk the clock by running the ball effectively and putting together demoralizing drives that take 10 - 15 plays. Davis was a huge part of that yesterday and would hate to see him have a significantly diminished role when he returns

So your saying we can't have those drives without Davis.

Interesting.

Davis doesn't have the explosiveness of CMC!

Bonnafon doesn't have the power of CMC!

If you combined the two, you would get an approximation of CMC's basic skill set, but you still wouldn't get a CMC level back.  But the thing is, you can't combine Davis and Bonnafon, so without CMC we don't have anyone that gives us the combination of skills that he does.  And while we can get away him not playing against the Chargers and Cardinals, it would hurt us as the season goes on and the schedule gets tougher...and it would certainly bite us if we somehow made it to the playoffs.  Teams would certainly adjust their defense to account for the lack of CMC (much like they did with Allen last year once they realized his limitations).

There were several plays in which Davis left yards on the field because he wasn't as explosive or as fast as CMC.  Yes, Davis played well, and he is a good back.  But he is limited.  And Bonnafon is closer to the shifty/speedy CMC, but he doesn't have his vision, patience, nor does he have CMC's ability to run through tackles and put his shoulder down.  When Bonnafon gets hit, Bonnafon goes down.  When CMC gets hit, you damn well better wrap up, otherwise you're going to be on a highlight reel...and not in a good way.

The bottom line is that CMC has the complete package at RB that neither of those guys possess, and he allows Brady to expand the offense to frightening levels for DC's.  Instead of thinking of it like we can get by with guys, we need to look at it like we can be dominant with CMC and these guys contributing.

Brady is handling the offense just fine.

no one on here can do it better.

you also don't get rid of a star talent just because you think his backups are capable.

some fans act as if they never learn.

Can't ever have enough good running backs.

How many super bowls did we win with DWill and JStew?

Name a star RB on a recent Super Bowl winner.

Not at all. I am saying it’s easier when you can have an effective 1-2 punch or even both on the field at the same tome. I think Davis is too good to only see 3 snaps like in game 1.

I don't need to. No team has won  a SB without a running game.

Folks like you have no clue, as you continue to want to weaken a team strength.

Our offense has improved as well. In the air. In the red zone. In the ground game.

CMC isn't there for us to force feed. That handicapped us. Now we're free to give other guys looks.

DJ and Samuel have both improved by leaps and bounds when Teddy has been forced to actually find them. How many looks have the TEs got when CMC was in there?

None of what you said is supported by any of the data.

CMC in 7 quarters of action: 9 targets.

Mike Davis in 9 quarters of action: 23 targets.

DJ/Samuel combined targets in Games 1 & 2 - 32

DJ/Samuel combined targets in Games 3 & 4 - 18

The evidence actually shows exactly the opposite of what you're stating.

And the TEs have had minimal impact whether CMC has been in or not.  To answer your question about how many looks the TEs got: 4 combined targets in games 1 & 2 and 8 combined targets in games 3 & 4...although doubling the targets only resulted in a whopping 3 more yards, plus the one touchdown by Thomas last game.

As far as red zone offense....I'm assuming you're afflicted by recency bias considering how abysmal our red zone offense was against the Chargers in CMC's first game out.

I'll say this.

I like what I've seen out of Davis AND Bonnafon.

I'd love to keep all three in the rotation.

TB100%H - We should trade CMC. We should have traded him before he ever signed an extension.

100% agree on keeping "all three in the rotation".

As time passes I think Brady's offense will only get faster & faster & faster and being able to platoon those guys to some degree could be a lethal option.

Over time if this hydra is successful & productive the issue becomes properly compensating all three RB's but the easy solution is to redistribute some of CMC's guaranteed money to Davis & Reggie...I'm sure CMC won't mind since it's for the benefit of the team "as a whole".

No kidding. Trying to point to wins and losses last year and this year. Gee willikers guys we lose with CMC and win without him. Well duh, we gave up the 2nd most points last year almost 30 ppg and 65 point the first two weeks. The past two weeks we gave up 18.5 ppg and only 11.5 ppg before 4.5 minutes left. Has nothing to do with CMC.

Davis has done fine, but he’s not on CMC’s level and for the love of Pete, why would Jax, Jets and Miami give away two firsts? They’re not in contention. It’s funny that people say RBs have dropped in importance but KC and LV just drafted 1st round RBs with great success and two more RBs got big deals with Aaron Jones soon to follow. CMC isn’t as much of an outlier and he’s getting paid less than Sammy Watkins during the first 3 years of the deal.

People say this all the time, but you get nowhere but fired in the NFL if you are a coach and you use your stud players anything less than all the time.

Reid isn't benching Mahomes once they have a lead. Belichick didn't bench Brady when he had a lead. And those are winning coaches. Coaches that are losing, struggling or just trying to establish themselves also don't have the luxury of NOT overusing their best players.

It's a win now business and it sure as hell is a win now fanbase --- even here in Carolina. You can see it here on The Huddle for sure. You can see it at work in every fan base.

You play a player until they either can't compete at the top or they can't answer the bell (to borrow a phrase from boxing). It's play for today because no one knows if you, or they, will have a tomorrow.

They won't rest CMC while the game, the season or the career of the coach or player are on the line. Sorry, it just doesn't happen here in the big leagues. Even CMC was pushing hard at the end in 2019s meaningless season, pushing to set a nearly unachievable accomplishment and to put laurels and garlands on a career that could end up in the Hall of Fame.

Football careers, are brutal, violent, unforgiving and always over way too soon. It may be a bitter truth, but it is part of what makes the game a sport that has endured in the public eye.

That’s all cute but both Rhule and Mccaffrey have long expensive contracts, the dumbest thing they could do is what Norv did last season and run Mccaffrey to the point of exhaustion or injury. Then your looking at paying Mccaffrey a huge contract while he’s in the sideline
