Teddy Bridgewater improvising, extending drives.

On the Panthers first drive, Teddy Bridgewater was able to scramble for a first down. Apparently, that was not how it was supposed to go down.

Coach Rhule credits Teddy Bridgewater for improvising  a busted play.

Really on that play, we had some sort of miscommunication with the receiver, not blaming him, just something happened wrong, and so it was just Teddy and Teddy found a way to make it happen. That has been my message from the very beginning with our guys - great players are way more important than great coaches and great players figure it out. I thought that was a great example of Teddy just figuring it out.

Here is the play in question.

Clearly Pharoh Cooper is confused on the play. (and yes, this was an uncalled delay of game because of it), But Teddy was able to improvise and get the first down on a touchdown drive that set the tone for the game.

Teddy added this after the game, so coach Rhule also gets some credit:

Then when you look at the fourth-and-two, we called a naked, wanted to receiver to be on the slot. It was last minute but this week coach mentioned three letters – F-I-O, figure it out. And that's what we had to do in that situation and we were able to get the first down and stay on the field.

FIO - Figure it out.

I love that.

This isn't average QB play in the NFL. This is good NFL play.

He's a very good fit for the kind of offense we're running.

My one criticism would be he can get really flustered when there's pressure. Solidifying the OL should be a priority next year.

(heck, that should be a priority no matter what)

At some point we need a real line. We had one of the best for a long time and then over the past 10-12 years it’s been a revolving door of trash. No matter who the QB is this needs to get better.

What? He’s been really good under pressure and is quite used to it at this point. His ability to sense pressure and get rid of the ball quickly or take off running when someone like Little completely whiffs (it’s happened a couple of time in back to back weeks) is why we’re all not roasting Little right now.

He's saved Little's ass on more than one occasion. Lord knows I won't argue that.

It's also true that some of his worst mistakes, including the pick yesterday,  came under pressure. I know all quarterbacks can be affected to some level by that, but some are better than others.

If we somehow landed Sewell and locked up Moton, Teddy would eat!

Garrett Bolles is also a FA this off season after the Broncos declined his 5th year option, he’s the type of dude you want on your team.

Watching live I thought something was weird about it pre-snap and did realize the clear uncalled delay of game, but didn't realize it wasn't intentional; just thought it was a great play call from Brady to have Teddy bootleg like that. Credit to Teddy for making it happen, and also although Cooper was confused, credit to him for getting out of Teddy's way last second; he could've easily made the tackle for loss for the Cardinals by accident there.
