Rhule's Chess Game

Not sure if a thread was made about this yet, but Matt Rhule and his staff utilized a rule (har har) today while on defense on two separate occasions.

The first came towards the end of the 2nd half when the Cardinals were in the Red Zone in an up-tempo offense. The Cardinals attempted to substitute a player which allowed the Panthers to substitute defensively, and take their time doing so. 

This caused the Cards to show their cards (har har) on offense and burn a time out due to Zach Kerr taking his sweet time to get to the line.

The Panthers were aware of the rule and used it to their advantage, I have never seen this or anything remotely strategic to that in all of my years of watching Panther football.

That wouldn't be the last time the Panthers called them out on the offensive substitution. Once again, near the end of the game while AZ was running up-tempo - they subbed a guy out and Zach Kerr strolled to the line.

 

Absolutely brilliant stuff, we have an incredibly smart and strategic staff.

I called it out in a thread about how well coached the team has been this season. But yes the point remains, when was the last time the Panthers did something smart like this? We’ve always had the dumb coaching staff getting this kind of stuff done against us.

“Just being honest”...the battle cry of TEAM REALISM on the Huddle. The same peeps who spent the entire offseason “just being honest” about how we wouldn’t win more than 3 games this season.

On the thread topic: loved that, that was hilarious...never seen that Rhule taken advantage of so beautifully.

I walked away from the tv the second time it happened, but I think I heard the commentators say that Kerr was taking his sweet time on purpose? Really impressed with this coaching staff.

It happened to us twice last year if I’m not mistaken.

I credit that to Rhule. We’ve had a much smoother game day procedures this season. For example, the play call gets in quickly which allows Teddy to check the play and fix the pass protection. Special team looks like night and day compared to last year even with the same special teams coach.

I’m happy we are the ones doing it. One thing that had been all too common here the past 12 years or so has been us mismanaging clock and little things like this. I felt like we were never the ones getting the better end of it.

Agree totally. I'm in on Rhule, Brady and Snow. Our team didnt beat them on talent we beat their ass with scheme.

I also noticed that when time was against the Cardinals from late in the 3rd on, Teddy never had the ball snapped with more than 2 seconds on the play clock. Most often it was 1 second remaining.

Which scares Panther fans cause we havent seen it. Only other teams have decent coaches.This could be fun!

seems like I remember hearing, maybe just a few days ago, that some Panther coache called another coach of the Panthers something like..."Belichikian."

Or may I was just hungry for chicken.  Still, is it possible that we have stumbled analytically-wise into good coaches?

Better take Rhule off that list. Everyone and his brother has been saying patience and the team isn't gonna be very good this year. Rhule has never said anything but he's here to win. So I don't think you've got the right to assign thoughts to him there's no evidence he had. Did I think we'd be 2-2? Nope. I'll give you you me and Tepper, but not Rhule.
