Have the Panthers ever been this well-coached?

let's see how rhule handles tight, down-to-the-wire ballgames against top coaches requiring intricate play clock management and scheme adjustments before answering that question.

rivera has a ton of flaws but he still has feathers in his cap from out-coaching belichek twice during his tenure here. rhule needs tests like that to arrive at any kind of an answer.

Sure if we had beat the Packers or Seahawks like that we should be more excited. But Rivera got outcoached more times than not and this was a clear game they won by coaching

Whether it's real or imagined, this staff absolutely seems like they know how to adapt and fix problem areas. Between our consistent improved play in the 2nd halves, making that terrible 4th and 1 stop in week 1 and following that up with that brilliant 4th and 1 touchdown sweep to McCaffrey week 2, to going 1 for 6 in the redzone last week to scoring tds on our first 4 redzone drives this week, we are consistently correcting our deficiencies. That says a lot more to me than specific decisions here and there.

I don't think Rivera and Fox were bad coaches at first. They both went to Super Bowls fairly early. What made them bad coaches in the long run was their complete inability to learn and adapt. Long term success requires flexibility and adaptation.  The game evolves and teams start to learn your tendencies after a few years. Those guys just couldn't evolve. Hell, very few can. Most head coaches flame out after a few years.

Rivera was bad from the get go. The ego, the “players didn’t execute my plan”, the poor roster decisions, the poor clock management, the poor staff choices, all of it was there from the start and never got better (and in the case of the latter, got worse).  He only had any success because he had a generational superstar leading on both sides of the ball to ride the coattails of.  I do agree that what you said applies to Fox though. He was solid for a while. I can confidently say we’ve ever had a coaching staff that makes halftime adjustments as well as this one. Time will tell if Rhule is better than any coach we’ve had, but the signs are looking good.

Rivera and Fox were good coaches.  They were primarily players coaches though.

This staff while is Very family and close knit with the players.  Insyead of just trusting the players to ram the square peg in the round hole.  They make adjustments.  Which is refreshing.

Rivera and Fox were both really good coaches

but they both had big time issues hiring the right staff

Its easy to forget the start of both of their tenures.  They both also felt like breathes of fresh air.

But I don't think I felt like either of them could do much in the way of in-game adjustment.
