Have the Panthers ever been this well-coached?

It’s no secret that this is NOT the most talented roster the Panthers have ever fielded. It might honestly be near the bottom of the list in Panthers history, talent wise.

The fact the Panthers are 2-2 in a rebuilding year with a young roster should speak volumes to the coaching staff. Even if they finish 6-10, this team has already overachieved.

Most expected this Panthers team to be 0-16, including myself. Seeing these young defensive players grow before my eyes has been a pleasant surprise. Taking advantage of other teams mishaps by milking time off the clock on last minute substitutions is something we’ve NEVER seen the Panthers do. Smart football. Belichick level moves.

We still might not be a good team. But this coaching staff has surprised me. These guys play hard despite not being a super talented roster. Watch out when these guys get a full roster of studs.

I don't think Rivera and Fox were bad coaches at first. They both went to Super Bowls fairly early. What made them bad coaches in the long run was their complete inability to learn and adapt. Long term success requires flexibility and adaptation.  The game evolves and teams start to learn your tendencies after a few years. Those guys just couldn't evolve. Hell, very few can. Most head coaches flame out after a few years.

A.  Not since their second season in existence. That's the only coaching job that comes close to this one imo.

I'd argue that the second half of 2004 is in the conversation, fueled by the Jake/Moose/Goings fever dream. The turnaround from 2001 to 2002 was pretty much all coaching as well. No doubt though that at this point 2020 is in the conversation as well.

It's definitely night and day between our last coaching staff and this one. Rhule seems to be able to reach the players and we have a very good skill set of players. We're starting to see how those individual skill sets look together. I like our speed at WR cause it keeps defenses honest. We apparently have a good 3 RB group. I like our direction...

Rhule did very well at the college level where the recruiting playing field was always stacked against him not being at one of the top prestige programs. The NFL means everyone has the same resources and the same opportunities to acquire talent via the draft.  That bodes well long term for even greater success. It's still early but there is a ton to like here.

I think you guys overestimate the talent on some of the previous Panthers teams. I can think of many Panthers teams that were worse than this one.

So far? Yes. They are miracle workers and way ahead of the curve I guessed. It's huge for our future. In comparison we have had some good coaches that could pass for dinosaurs. Their adaptability stands out.

Edit: Should be no lol

let's see how rhule handles tight, down-to-the-wire ballgames against top coaches requiring intricate play clock management and scheme adjustments before answering that question.

rivera has a ton of flaws but he still has feathers in his cap from out-coaching belichek twice during his tenure here. rhule needs tests like that to arrive at any kind of an answer.
