"Teddy will never be good enough" crowd

He’s doing enough to win, that’s all I care about.

that’s fine. the problem is the same could said about every other player who got into the game today. we can either evaluate players on their individual performance or we can evaluate players solely by whether or not they were on the winning team that day. “he did enough to win” falls flat when there isn’t a corresponding “he didn’t do enough to win” when the team loses.

The thing being ignored in this convo about Teddy’s talents is that it’s not a singular issue. Joe Brady picked Teddy to run this thing for a reason and I think we’re seeing the fruits of that.

That's not ignored at all for most. The issue is that many feel when Brady/the scheme and the offense in general comes up against the formidable defenses of the best teams in the league or weeks where the defense isn't coming through Teddy doesn't have (or at least hasn't yet to show) the ability to elevate the team above that.

We will continue getting looks at this as the season goes on.

Realistically from most people's idea of a "franchise qb" there are only 8-10 in the entire NFL.

And it's no coincidence that those teams have won the vast majority of Super Bowls for the past 20 years.

Still, outside of Mahomes last year, the Super Bowl has been filled recently with QBs that haven't exactly lit the world on fire. Brady in his 40s, Jared Goff, Nick Foles, and Jimmy Garoppolo. I mean Garoppolo's 49ers dominated the Packers and their "franchise qb" in the NFC championship game. Do our chances of winning a super bowl go up by having a Mahomes level QB? Obviously. Are we doomed if we don't and/or do we need to pull all the stops to get a better qb even at the detriment of other positions on our team? I don't think so.

And let's be honest P Manning wasn't a frachise QB by the time of SB 50, E Manning never was, Russel Wilson was a game manager at the time powered to a SB win by an insane defense, Complete teams win SBs.

You're absolutely right, but far fewer Super Bowl teams, winners and losers alike, have had QBs outside of that category. What you describe requires the total package of elite roster and elite coaching with much smaller margins for error.  That's the point - try for the latter with a guy like Teddy, but do not pass up the opportunity for the former with a better QB.

Wilson accounted for 30 and 36 TDs himself those Super Bowl years, passing for 3500 and 4000 yards as well. He was much more than a game manager. Agreed though about Manning.

With the exception of last seasons cheifs the last seven superbowls have been won by complete teams, Tom Brady is gonna go down as the goat but lets be honest he hasn't been a madden level stat "franchise QB" the last 6 years.

He isn't what he once was but he hasn't passed for less than 3900 yards since 2010 (when he passed for 3900) and has been at 24 TDs or more every year during that time, with half of those years at 30 or more.

Now, IMO it's very fair to say that NE has feasted on that weak AFC East for a long time but Brady has gotten it done in the playoffs nearly every year and just today I saw him pitching balls with 45 air yards or more. What he lacks in physical skills he more than made up for with intangibles and IMO that keeps him in franchise QB territory. Game managers don't come back from being down 28-3.

He has also had the best coach in NFL history his entire career, Brady is good but he wouldn't be a 6 time SB winner if he wasn't the product of a system.... Well rounded teams tend to win SBs.
