Not only Cam Newton's development--I watched him abuse Dwayne Jarrett and publicly rain insults on him at an OTA--I shared that before on the Huddle---name a WR brought on board after Smitty that developed here?  They did not because Smitty was off the chain.

Smitty was a phenomenal player and one of the most fun Panthers of all-time to watch on the field, but there's no denying the massive mountain of evidence that the guy is an asshole through and through. I'm not sure you could have one without the other though. That same chip on his shoulder that made him so great on the field and led to so many entertaining taunts, celebrations, and sound bytes was also the same chip on his shoulder that made him a complete asshole off the field. Some guys just can't flip that switch off when they step off the field.

I mean.....for what it's worth you can't exactly name a WR that developed much here after he left either :crying:

Scoring points wasnt the problem in the super bowl.  It was von miller

Yep. If I could add any former Panther to that roster it would be Jordan Gross and there's not even a close second based on that roster's specific needs. Put Gross at RT in that SB and we're no longer ringless.

So was Michael Jordan. Great players have that attitude some times, and it can be a good thing needed to push people, especially in a sport like football, the ultimate alpha sport where you can use that attitude to close teams out. It’s tough because yeah being an asshole is never a good thing, but you can also overlook all the times that attitude causes us to win or rally the team when we were down and having bad games/seasons. Some young players need to be exposed to that to toughen up in football.

Except when you physically assault your teammates. Nobody needs that.
