I agree.

Important BUT not fundamentally game changing to the point you make it the very top priority of your draft when drafting that high. If you are drafting in the top 5 then your roster lacks talent at positions that have a greater impact on the game than linebacker. Ever seen a team with a solid qb, solid tackles and a solid pass rush draft top 5 without trading into it?

Note what I did not say. I did not say I would never take a lb first round. I said I would not take one top 5.

I think that's up for debate now.

In today's NFL where TEs comparable to Gronk and Vernon Davis are becoming more and more the norm and receiving backs are everywhere, having a capable leader in the middle of the field is worth a top 5 pick. If you're drafting in the top 5 you're likely team building anyway. Might as well get the player you think you'd love. And with players like Brown, Shaq, and Chinn we're moving in the right direction.

Of course this all depends on the draft class, I'd take a potential elite cover corner over an LB in the top 5 10 out of 10 times, but if the potential is there it's worth it imo. That said much like any defensive position (save man cover corners) they really need a good support system to get the most out of them.

Though I know nothing about this kid and the Luke comparisons make me eyeroll, Luke was the entire BC defense and tested eh at the combine. He's a rare football genius and Luke comparisons often miss the point.

To be a franchise QB. Everyone knows, you do not pick up FA QB's and expect them to be your Franchise QB's going forward. FA QB's are always used as stop gaps. If they were good enough to be Franchise QB's, they wouldn't be FA QB's in the first place.

Look man, seeing Brees play like he his playing and for Payton not to lock Teddy up pretty much tells me all i need to know.

I wonder if Teddy talked to Drew about that.

Looks at the Saints cap room

Looks at how much we're paying Teddy.

Yeah Teddy's play is entirely the reason u right.

The Saints are one of the best teams if not the best in managing cap space.  If they wanted teddy they would have found a way especially know brees is done and this is the last hurrah for him.

Possibly. Wonder if he talked to Nick Foles about it too? Maybe Ryan Fitzpatrick? Kirk Cousins? Jake Plummer? Scott Mitchell? Brock Osweiler? Matt Flynn? He should give them a call.

How about Brett Farve or Kurt Warner. Or Jimmy G. Or Carson Palmer. Or Alex Smith. Or Ryan Tannehill. Or Peyton Manning. Or even fugin Jake Delhomme.

Quarterback is the most important position in the NFL. If you have an elite one, or hell even a good one you hang onto it. That's why you see drafted QBs stay on one team. Situations happen sometimes where talent gets out on the market every now and then. And its worth the risk of trying them out based on potential. Sometimes they work out. Sometimes they don't.

Just like drafted QBs wow.

No one's saying Teddy's proven anything yet but to act like its set in stone three weeks into the season that he can't prove these things is foolish.

Yeah you right I'm sure they could've found a way to pay 20mil this season alone for Teddy and ignore trying to round up players for Brees' last hurrah.
