NFL manipulating rules to increase scoring

As if it wasn’t already heavily skewed, offensive holding calls are down 59% from 2019 while defensive pass interference is up 22%. The result is a 16% increase in scoring since 2019 and 22% over last two decades. 

I’m no boomer and get that scoring sells but without defense the game will become a joke like NBA with players constantly breaking records
 

It used to mean something for a QB to pass for 300 yards, now any JAG can do it.

I mean of course.   When Goodell took over, the NFL became something completely different.

Kind of like baseball in the 90s. The fan-base started to dwindle post the '94 strike. Enter: juiced ball, blind eye to juiced players and the slow pitch softball/home run era began.

They had to do this to get interest in a crazy year. Remember when a completely steroid fueled HR race saved the MLB?

They have been doing this for a long while. The tightened up cornerback rules years ago that pretty much ended Ricky Manning Jr's career.

Each week they should be calling more offensive holding calls at this point. It's week 4, either the olinemen are ready or they suck and shouldn't get the extra help. They need to start rolling this back to normalish.

The average sports fan / person doesn't have the attention span or ability to appreciate any degree of nuance in most anything. It must be obvious and constant or the attention shifts, and in a world of unending potential stimulation, the NFL doesn't want to risk losing eyes. Scoring is the lowest common denominator of engagement in sport.

This is one of the reasons we as Americans haven't really embraced world football - soccer to us.  It's a very subtle and defensive game where the margins between being a good team and an average one are quite small.  We can't comprehend how a 2-0 or 3-0 win was "dominant".

Damn near every year of the NFL starts off with a lot of scoring/yards then dies down by midseason.

Based off this blatant rigging, I think we can easily conclude the NFL made the call to give Manning that Superbowl.

OPI calls have shockingly been worse than DPI this season imo.

Haven't seen all of them but the worst DPI I've seen this season was in the Bucs/Saints game.

Shortened offseason has lead to sloppier defenses in general. 

If you go all offseason not even being able to touch anyone due to social distance restrictions, then immediately need to start hitting people, there's going to be curve before you settle in. 

Same thing happened in 2011 after the lockout. Defenses were sloppy, then got better as the year went on.
