Worth noting he ran 30 times for 166 yards in the national championship game. I remember another college QB who was great at running it too.

Absolutely, but he’s not going to win a lot of NFL games throwing the ball 10-15 times a game.

Trey Lance can throw the ball. Every scout knows that. Furthermore he had an overall 66.9% completion percentage.

I read one dumb analysis by an armchair scout that said he had accuracy issues (which means the guy was just going by completion percentage as opposed to looking at film like real scouts). But Daniel Jeremiah puts it best:

"I say this all the time: Do not get caught up in completion percentage when evaluating accuracy. Lance completed nearly 67 percent of his passes, which is impressive, but the tape showed he was even more accurate than that number indicates. His ball placement is excellent. He really trusts his eyes and throws with anticipation, which allows his receivers better opportunities to run after the catch. He can layer the ball in the middle of the field (over linebackers and under safeties) and he excels on bucket throws (deep balls over the top)."

Trey Lance played in 16 games last season. He had 9 games where he didnt throw the ball 20 times. In 5 of those 16 games he was under 60% completions. He had just one game over 30 throws. I believe they won the championship game with him throwing 10 times or less.

Fields played much better competition , 14 games, only 2 under 60% and all games but one had over 20 attempts. Fields also scored more touchdowns in less games despite not playing after halftime in 4 games and not playing the 4th in 6 games.

As it stands for me right now, if it comes down to something like Sewell or Lance I am going Sewell.  If its Fields or Sewell probably still leaning sewell but its close to a coin flip.

The article linked at the start of this thread implied accuracy issues. Says he gets balls batted down at the line a lot, locks onto first reads, and has ball placement issues.

Lance threw zero interceptions on near 2800 yards, so who am I gonna believe, Josh Edwards or Daniel Jeremiah? I don't think you luck into not throwing at least one interception, so Lance obviously knows what he's doing.

Wait, so there are 3 QBs worth of top 5 picks this year.

The Giants and Bengals will surely be in the top 5 and won't be taking a QB.

There is a clear franchise LT and WR in this draft that also will go top 5.

Yeah, the Panthers could still land one of the 3 QBs at pick 6 if needed.

Yessir Jeremy, Lance will for 110% sure go top 5 if he comes out this year. I am praying he does!

Ball placement doesnt mean interceptions. It could be the difference between hanging your receiver out to dry vs letting him rack up yac. You can also throw an interceptable ball and have it dropped by a DB. Not all bad passes lead to turnovers.

A lot depends on where in the top 5 certain teams land.

The only team I don't see picking one and not taking Trevor is Bengals.  They would probably trade down to 2 and take Sewell.

Giants at 1 probably would take Trevor.  At five they might pass on Lance and keep Jones.

At 6 we could easily miss out one of the top 3 QBs.

Giants - Trevor

Jets - Fields

Cincy - Sewell

Jags - Chase

Broncos - Lance

Panthers - ?

What if Jets pick 1st and Giants stick with Jones

Jets - Trevor

Giants - Sewell

Cincy - Chase

Jags - Fields

Atlanta - Lance

Panthers ?

There are so many combinations where one of the 3 QBs don't fall to 6.

The Broncos like Drew Lock and they suck in part because he’s injured. He’s not great, but they need other positions worse. Atlanta will not piss off Matt Ryan by burning a top-five pick on a QB. They’ll go defense. Parsons is a very likely top-5 pick and most teams could use a LB. If we pick sixth, it’s Trey Lance.
