Do we still hate dontae Jackson or nah?

Picked on a rookie QB making his 1st start last week, good job but he is at allowed completion percentage of 61.5% for the year. Still not worth a new contract and still not a good football player. He has improved his yards allowed from 17 to 9.9 so that's better but not great. Meh, good enough for this year. Unless he makes some big strides in play it's a position we can keep trying to upgrade in the offseason.

Honestly his small play in the run game really underwhelms me the most. More interceptions would be a nice offset but still not a good long term solution. If we want to build a legit D, then having Jackson play CB doesn't project well to that goal.

Is that supposed to be bad? If our whole team allowed that, we would have the 5th best mark in the NFL. He may not be an elite shutdown corner at this point but that's not the question and you haven't exactly used those stats to prove he's "not a good football player". I'd say he's starting to show he can be an effective starting cb if he continues to show the strides he has lately and can stay healthy.

Look it's early and in a new D but the facts suggest otherwise. Link

That completion % is a career high. That is not improving. There is improvement in his numbers but unfortunately if you look at his tackles they are down and his missed tackle % is alarmingly high. He is still a high risk or reward guy. IF he can start tackling then we can start talking strides. Also if you look his DADOT (Average depth of target) correlates with him giving up less yards per comp so it still looks pretty on average.

This also raises the question if the changes are Donte ,the new D or a likely combo? I don't know but I am sure we will see as the sample size grows. The fact is that we signed a guy off the heap who it now rated as a top 10 CB in this D, Jackson is still the guy getting picked on and I would run all day at him if I was calling a D against him. It's his to prove but he still is not a good CB yet.

Quarterback rating is a better indicator of improvement. I’d rather give up three 3 yard completions than 2 incompletions and a 20 yarder.

Read the last paragraph. It covers all of that and I'm not certain about a sample size of below 3, he missed the majority of game one after he hurt himself avoiding the tackle that gave up a TD. go to 1:45
