Panthers getting some respect in power rankings

NAS

Recommended Posts

We've been competitive in all our games so far.  My whole thing has been that there is just not enough elite talent to be any good this year.  Rhule and Co. have done an outstanding job of coaching and gameplanning though.  The contrast between Rhule ball and Rivera ball is night and day.

We still need a franchise QB though.

The #30 and below rankings were dumb.  This team may not be good, but we aren’t that bad.  We have some young playmakers and can compete.  That same Chargers team put up a hard fight against the Chiefs 2 weeks ago.  Honestly, I just want to beat ATL for fuging once.  So tired of losing to those chokers.

Biggest thing I’ve noticed so far is that we seem to actually make adjustments.  I felt like a sweet summer song had blessed me when we changed up our game plan.  Feels good man.

We're on the right path.  Another couple years of strong drafts, clearing out all the aging high priced vets to open up cap room, and more coaching up from Rhule and Brady and Co and we will have ourselves an honest to goodness football team in Charlotte.  The future is bright IMO.

I am in the camp that we should tank this year to ensure a shot at one of the top 3 QB's but that does not seem to be in the cards.

Agree 100%.  I like Teddy, and he’s a great transitional QB, but a real franchise QB is what is gonna make the difference (as it usually does).

I have a lot of faith in Rhule and the staff given what I’ve seen with the weird offseason and lack of elite overall talent we have.  They’ve impressed me so far.  I just hope Marty can make some good decisions in the upcoming drafts.  Someone hold me.

This, I have confidence in Rhule and his coaching staff but I don't trust Marty to effectively manage the roster and the cap

I see 5 wins as the most we should expect, based on the schedule.  If we win 6, Snake is going to kiss his own ass.  I have that in writing.  I am going for 6 wins for that reason alone.

I just wanna watch 4corners eat a handful of live bees.

Or yellow jackets.

Or hornets.

I'm not picky.

How many wins will that take?

I would advise against expecting any wins this season.  Oh sure they will stumble into at least on more but beyond that I'm not "expecting" anything other than my doctor telling me I'm drinking too much to drown the pain of yet another Panthers "rebuild/retool/reload" whatever the hell this is we are watching.

Rhule's philosophy is that you instill it in the players to not give up. He even said in the offseason something along the lines that if the team is 1-15 that they will play like the best 1-15 team, if the team is 7-9 they will play like the best 7-9 team and so on. It shows, we might not have the most talent right now but this team doesn't looks like the current dogshit that you see in the Jets, Giants, Falcons, and Broncos.

    • If we are going to spend the money anyway, maybe the signing is not as bad as it seems.  Mays outperformed Corbett (before his injury and if you go back to last year, Corbett has been below average) and then Christensen took the job and Mays quickly took it from him and never looked back.  He could use improvement reaching to the next level (LBs) but picking up stunts and blitzes---he was surprisingly good.  Run blocking needs some work, but he is 25.  Corbett, in my view, should be G/C depth and if Mays steps back, he is there.  Mays should start because this team is building for the future and 30 year old players are not building blocks.  We shall see.  That is how I think about it, but there are many factors we do not know. Having said that, I like what Zavala is doing, and I do not want to bring in someone who would take opportunities away from him.  Zavala was really good at RG down the stretch, and in limited duty, was awesome. In fact, we have a guard from the PS who played briefly and did well, but he only played a few plays.  He is 25 and I recall that fans of his former team were upset when we signed him.   Maybe as the backup center only (Corbett).  You need 2 centers to run practices efficiently.  I cannot say enough about the OL coaches on this staff.  What they have done is overshadowed by the Lewis / Hunt signing.  Mays, Ekwonu, Zavala--impressive growth.
