Too much into RBs and LB maybe, but hard to argue with what we did at WR. 2 of our best are on rookie contracts still and our other top guy was a free agent pickup for 10 M.

This will probably be Davis' only year on the roster before he will be replaced by a mid to late round draft pick. As we build, that cap space will be more critical and more of the bad contracts will start to come off the books.

Only if we get rid of Hurney. If Hurney stays, history says that more bad contracts will be added and current bad contracts will be restructured to make them even worse in the long run.

The issue with CMC is always the “at what cost” calculation.  Is the hit he makes to the salary cap worth the hit to the roster that makes?  Or are we better off to have cheaper RBs and spend the money on OL, Defense, QB etc which are what won championships.

CMC doesn’t win us games while lighting up the stats, arguably his inability at short yardage goal line has cost games.

Sure. But I also present exhibit Cam Newton, who was rushed onto the field after more injuries than any of us care to count, sometimes injuries mid-game, and look where that got us.

No idea how serious his ankle injury really is but those dreaded "high ankle sprains" are notorious for lingering around for longer than expected. No reason to rush him back, and if the team is out of contention by the time he's ready, why risk him? RBs have the shortest careers of most positions in the NFL. What I'm suggesting is not crazy.

As a sophomore at USC, I remember Davis played lighter, was much more decisive, and had killer break-away speed. Then he gained weight, lost some speed, and started to dance around too much. (Weird I know to gain weight and try to be more shifty.)

He still has glimpses of his former self when he doesn't play around too much and is a great pass catcher though.

If CMC was in at tailback here, it is a touchdown. That is a huge hole to run through leaving only a single safety to shake between him and the end zone. 

So enough with the "trade CMC" talk. It is embarrassing. 

CMC is obviously better, but if Davis doesn’t stutter step to the inside, which was the move that gives the DL time to close the hole, then the LB likely continues on his trajectory towards that hole and doesn’t move into that block by 67.

He's a great compliment to CMC but is no replacement for a superstar. That shouldn't be considered a knock on him.

I agree with you, but will counter that he needs to be 100% healthy. None of this "he's mostly healthy so give him 95% of the snaps" BS. I'd rather him sit out an extra week or 2, or come back with limited snaps, than rush back and risk re-injury.

This. Rivera ruined our franchise QB with that foolishness. Guess that's why you let a HC go as soon as you know he isn't coming back. Fug that "wait til the end of the season" crap. A dead man walking will take folk with him while trying to save his own tail.

Yeah, trade your best offensive weapon away, and one of the premier weapons in the league because you don't want to pay him. That's idiocy! The fact is, his contract is ultimately a bargain considering what you get.

 

And don't give that RBs aren't worth it poo. Skill players, whether WR, TE, RB or QB get hurt all the time. It's just a part of the business. It doesn't mean you don't put them, particularly when they produce so much and while they're still in their prime.

Same can be said of Cam and how did that work out.....
