I'm going to explain it to you.

If you have a top 5 QB your chance of winning a championship goes way up.

Not all top QB prospects are equal. Trevor could be the best QB in the next 3 to 5 drafts with everyone else being a step below.

This win makes it harder to get him.

Thus hurting our wins in future years and very likely keeping us in our traditional 7-9 11-5 spot.

Never bad enough to get better and never good enough to win it all.

That's why it's bad.

You either want to win it all or have the number 1 pick and there's no chance in hell we can win it all this year.

Pssst....we weren't bad enough to get him anyway.

Let me explain something to you.

It doesn't matter if your QB is a #1 pick, top 5 or top 10. If your offensive line can't provide championship protection, you'd still win games here and there or maybe have winning seasons every other year but no championship.

As far as Trevor goes, no rookie is a sure bet. That's why there's a process used to help make teams comfortable with the selections. It's more about the fit than the player. A top 5 player that doesn't fit his drafted teams scheme & or coaches style, isn't going to play up to expectations.

Anyone expecting an entire professional organization to lay down, intentionally lose, not even try to improve for an entire season, tell all their fans and PSL Owners that we're trashing this session to put all our future eggs in the Andrew Luck.. I meant Trevor Lawrence basket is well...not right bright!

Quickest way for Coach Rhule to destroy his credibility and lose his players trust?

Tanking this season.

Not gonna happen.

I'm amazed at the football knowledge here.

You don't draft a talent like TL to fit your system. You design the system around the talent.

You don't draft OL then try to draft a QB you'll never get another chance.

TL and bring him slow

2nd ol

3rd lb

Then get another top 5 pick

LT

As far as intentionally laying down I am not. My process would to not have signed tons of FA and played as many young guys as possible giving them valuable snaps and getting great analysis on them.

This process pays off in year 3 in coached up home grown talent and cap space.

Got nothin huh?

Sure was just eating dinner.

Brady a 1 in a billion lottery ticket and we've seen two of those in my lifetime so he's not really a valid point.

Prescott doesn't belong in the same conversation as the other 3. He's a great value but Tony Romo 2.0. Not going to get it done.

Russell. Anyone from this state that hates NC State knew long ago that RW is The Devil. Anyone who saw what he did at that God awful place knew he was incredibly underdrafted. You are giving Marty way too much credit if you think he'll have a second win like that. Jake used up his one time.

Mahomes is the only valid point you made and I don't remember how the draft fell that year off the top of my head probably because of ESPN cutting to commercial during our pick and sending me into my yearly rage.

Cam had three winning seasons with Carolina.  He was an undeniably talented QB/#1 pick.  It takes SO much more than that to win a Super bowl.

Dallas looks legit this season and much of that has to do with Dak at QB.  That not withstanding, in the NFL you don't need the #1 pick to find a winning QB to build a Super Bowl winning team around.  Look no further than recent SB history if for some reason you doubt me.

Sadly, Carolina Panthers fans should know this  better than most, selecting a QB with the #1 pick won't ensure a franchise's success.

Rhule's our coach and I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Clearly his plans don't align with your own.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
