Chargers vs Panthers discussion

Thanks.

This might be the easiest game on the schedule for the Chargers, and it's a perfect game for Herbert to start after a full week of preparation as the No. 1.

They lost a lot of fans when they moved to LA. Dumbest move in the history of sports.

My old bass player is from San Diego and he was a huge Chargers fan during their runs in the 2000s. He started following the Cowboys after they moved. Shitty franchise.

you couldn't convert him to Panthers?? shame on you man

i vaguely remember all these games:
1. 2008 - lost in the last seconds with a 13 yard pass back into the back of the endzone:
in a bar with Raider fans who proceeded to suggested that what would be known as Norvitis was beginning to set in
2. 2012 - the final nail driven into Norv's coffin: complete blowout embarrassment
3. 2016 - McCoy's waning moments

Carolina is like Haley's comet to the Chargers: every four years portends doom when they come around

LOL.

If Tyrod starts, I think we get one TD, a couple of figgies, a ton of punts, and lose 17-13. If Herbie starts, I think we get about two TD's and three figgies, and we win, 23-17. Keep starting Herbie, coach! He's already showing surprising upside...

No McCaffrey.

Oh he's out? Dude's like 40% of their offensive production. (ok may be exaggerated?) I may need to start their WRs on my fantasy team.

Carloina is without McCaffery. Our problem is that we can make scrub unknowns look like All-Pro's.......it's just the Chargers way.

Seems to be the general consensus was that we were basically McCaffery and a bunch of JAGs. Definitely underrating our offense.

Teddy Bridgewater isn’t Tyrod. He’s actually a decent qb. How many times have the chargers played a team missing it’s star and come up short. Think Pittsburgh last season with the 3rd string QB.

This guy appears to have actually watched us play.

Sounds like their LB corps is banged up and thin. Also it is pretty funny how deep they get into the Tyrod vs. Herbert debate. The SD coach apparently doesn't want to start Herbert at all and made some pretty obvious comments to the media to that effect(I believe it was, "He was the backup for a reason."). Fanbase doesn't love Tyrod but the coach apparently views him as "The Guy."

Their description of their head coach sounds very Ron Rivera-esque.

I think Lynn is very risk-averse, and that is why Tyrod Taylor appeals to him, because Taylor is also risk-averse. I think this trait makes Lynn cautious about using younger players, because he knows what to expect from the veteran and he needs to have that control. That stymies the growth of young players and hurts the team if a talented young player can't get on the field. If Lynn does start Tyrod over Herbert against the Panthers, I will begin to consider him too risk-averse to be an effective head coach. You have to be willing to take risks in this league to succeed. I notice that neither Parham, Hill nor Reed have been targeted in the passing game. I'm not sure Parham was active for either game. Hill was in for 6 snaps Sunday and Reed just two. Reed did get one carry for 8 yards and he is returning kicks.

Yikes that does seem reminiscent of Rivera, maybe worse. I'd be furious if I was a Chargers fan. Herbert looked like the real deal. I was impressed. It'd be different perhaps if your starter was someone with a better track record, maybe like an Alex Smith in Mahomes rookie year or Eli Manning in Daniel Jones' rookie year, still with the plan to hand the reins over sooner rather than later. But Tyrod has never been more than a below average game manager/solid backup. Start the man, particularly against a vulnerable Panthers offense where he's poised to build some more confidence
