I’m also fine with sitting out our top 3 qb pick for a year so we can build up the oline. I know fans will want that pick to start immediately but I honestly don’t care  if the oline can’t protect him.

Hopefully that is long term plan.  Let whoever sit, learn and build the lines through FA and draft.

If Trevor doesn’t have the “killer instinct” I don’t want him.

look at all the qbs around the league that are Uber competitive and successful. Yes they have the tools and the talent but what separates them more is the “want.” They hate losing. Mahomes, Watson, RW, Lamar and Cam. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player hate losing more than Cam. I want that again.

someone who knows more about Lawrence can chime in. I watched the natty Clemson lost and Trevor seemed like one of those guys but that was one game and I don’t know enough.

He has lost one game in his college career.  I think is "killer instinct" is just fine

Keep reading that post. That’s the point people are making. How does he respond to losing. Does he hate to lose? Does he have that same fire as Mahomes, RW, Cam, Lamar, Watson? Those are the types of qbs we need on this team.

You said prospect. Trevor is the best prospect to come out of CFB since Andrew Luck. I have no idea if he'll be a HoF or bust, but he's the best prospect we've seen in years. You don't pass that up

Not sure what you're saying. Do you or do you not think he's going to be a good/great nfl QB?  If you're going to take shots at other people giving opinions you've got to give your own. Its fine if you think he's going to be great, but you just said you have no idea. Why tell others they're 'so, so wrong' if you have no idea?

Are you saying he has the best on-paper measurables and we should draft on that?

I agree with most of what you are saying. Alabama could have won 10+ game with Hurts,  but I felt they had a ceiling with him at QB. Also, I believe LSU had not beaten Alabama since 2011 until last year. What are your thoughts about Justin Fields? I have more concerns about him because Ohio State QB have not translated well in the NFL.

The Tua/Hurts decision basically was a CFP decision IMO.   Tua gave Bama a better passing attack vs the teams at the end.

Hurts would have gone to 4 straight college football playoffs if allowed to be the QB all 4 at Bama.

I wish I could friggin edit.  He's obviously a great prospect. I just don't really see an NFL superstar in him. Obviously, I'd love to be proved wrong.

Only thing that concerns me about J. Fields is that he wasn't good enough to beat out Jake Fromm his freshman year. Which yes I understand that is a huge ask of a freshman, but Trevor did it. It's going to be hard not to compare the 2 in literally everything for the next 6 months.

Some coaches just LOVE that familiarity aspect. That's how you end up with Fromm > Fields... or Teddy > Cam for that matter.

All I'll say about Lawrence is that Clemson has really only needed him to step up and carry them one time and that was the worst game of his life.  He's a terrific college QB, but Joe Burrow was way better last year than he has been so far and that's not a knock. Joe Burrow may have had the best college football season ever last year.

Did the Alabama and Ohio State games not happen? The whole Clemson team had a bad game. The LSU receivers made the Clemson secondary look awful and Higgins disappeared after Okudah crushed him and Ross regressed after his freshman year. Lawrence had a bad game, it happens, but I don’t think LSU was losing that game. They had the better team and a damn good OL that benefited from all four Clemson DL starters going in the 1st and 2nd rounds that April.

Joe Burrow had a great year, but he isn’t as good a prospect. Doesn’t mean Lawrence is guaranteed but some of these hot takes are just silly. Justin Herbert? He had a decent game. He also threw a stupid INT (one of his knocks) at the end of the game instead of even just falling forward for a 1st where a FG or TD essentially wins the game. That led to the Hill TD to tie the game. Herbert’s stats look decent but the dumb decision and the low risk passes are basically what we we saw at Oregon. 124 yards to WRs and 187 yards to TE/RBs.

Also, I’ll say this again, Joe Burrow is 3 years older than Lawrence (and Fields and probably Lance). That’s a big difference Lawrence was 18  at the start of his freshman year and turned 19 to win a NC against a star studded Alabama. Lawrence will be completing his second year in the NFL when he turns the same age as Burrow was last year at LSU.

I mean if you (not just you, all the hot takes) don’t like Clemson that’s cool but it’s really goofy to act like Lawrence isn’t an elite QB prospect on the level last seen with Luck. If you like Fields better, cool, doesn’t mean Lawrence is a bad prospect. Nothing is guaranteed for any of these guys but the draft is about their potential and he’s at the tippy top of QBs.

I am inclined to give Fields a little bit of a pass from the typical "Ohio St." QB. I say that just because he did actually play at Georgia in limited action and basically performed very similar to how he has at Ohio St. I personally like the kid and would be 100% okay drafting him.

I mean, we did literally sign a QB in Carolina that is a low risk pass guy.
