No. I also think the McCaffery contract was a mistake. However, if viewed from the standpoint of Hurney these moves made sense.I believe Hurney is in the last  year of his contract. He desperately wants to show improvement upon which a new contract could be justified. Therefore,in a sense, these mistakes rest on the Tepper's shoulders. After all, he implicitly approved of this situation and was probably involved explicitly in many of these decisions.

I confess to being very disappointed. I really hoped that Tepper engender more data driven decisions. I really do not think data was driving these decisions. Many of these decisions seemed driven by public relations and/or desperation.

I completely agree with this take. Investing in the players and positions he did and then making the kind of decision he did on the most critical position in football really defies every ounce of data available. These all feel like the same decisions we have traditionally made rather than turning over a new leaf.

The CMC contract will make a lot more sense when/if we have a new potential franchise QB here to develop. That's an awfully nice crutch for a young developing QB to lean on.

Jeremy Chinn is already better than Shaq two games into transitioning to the NFL from Southern Illinois with no preseason while learning a new position. Marinate on that for a minute before defending that contract.

I will point out that although I love Chinn, he is one of the leaders in the NFL in missed tackles through 2 weeks.

tre boston is whatever

it's effectively a 2 year deal in a season they're not going to be competitive anyway. you have to have at least one veteran who knows how to conduct himself on a day to day basis in the nfl. it's whatever.

and who knows with shaq. the defensive line is such a mess that i'm not really ready to judge him. he's best as a blitzer and they've played a team in the raiders who gets everything out in 2 seconds, and tom brady who's basically the master of avoiding contact with his playcalls. early returns haven't been great, however.

It's a lot easier to teach a young guy better tackling technique than it is to make someone an all around better football player. Watching the ghost of what used to be LeSean McCoy break Shaq's ankles for what should've been the easiest TD of his career was just sad. This guy was supposed to be the prototype LB/S receiving TE/RB neutralizer. That sounded great on paper. Now let's hope Chinn can actually be it.

Knowing what we know now, should Hurney have extended Shaq and Tre?

Knowing what we know now? Plenty of people here never wanted them extended in the first place, there is no hindset, just more overpaying Hurney dumbassery. You do not pay big men coming off injury (Paradis, Olsen, M Kalil) and you do not pay/extend players who played next to players that drastically elevated their play (KK, Shaq). You need depth and you don’t pay fan favorites when there’s little drop off (R Kalil). When you have zero depth or forethought you’re left with zero options and overpay.

Yes these weren’t all Hurney but it’s still happening. This should be common sense. This is what teams like the Patriots DON’T do. This is somehow what huddler know and Hurney doesn’t. He will dig a hole the franchise will have to crawl out of once again.

How is that? By avoiding contact at all cost? Because if that's the case he's doing a fine job.

D-line covers and make the back 7 look a lot better.

Front 4 are god awful. Throw in that 2 starters were/are out, we don’t have a sack in the league,  and we can’t stop the run, it’s going to make those back 7 look really really bad.

Luke is one of my favorite players ever, is a HoF, but he would even look out of place and look bad this year
