Yep I’m chalking it up to a rookie mistake in the first game from jitters and hopefully he learned his lesson in the film room from his team mates.

If he got his head around and played the ball he would be at no fault. Hell even if he took the PI there to stuff them at the one yard line. I’m confident he’ll learn.

I think that was kind of the knock on him coming in was that he didn't excel at making plays on the ball. Perhaps he learns it, perhaps he doesn't. Either way, he was a 5th round pick so if he even become a rotational/depth CB for us, it's a win. I saw nothing to make me upset at him.

I know it "feels" like it's been forever since KK was "good" . . . but keeping in mind KK got a paid prior to the 2017 season let's consider the below:

image.png.a342cdd60167c93f6151e068ff7113d2.png

His 2017 season was pretty strong.  Not quite up to the 2015/2016, but near enough that no one was concerned.  Then came 2018.  Oh, right, that's the year Star went to Buffalo and we put the utterly forgettable Dontari Poe next to him.  KK got all the double teams, and still produced quite well.  Yes, his sacks and QB hits went down, but he also only played 14 games.

Yea, he got hurt in 2019.  It happens.

So yea . . . KK hasn't been terrible for years.  In fact, he's really not been terrible at all.

I do agree, he's now on the wrong side of 30.  He's coming off an injury.  He's got a lot stacked against him.  It's not likely we'll ever see 2015/2016 KK again.

But the agenda / narrative that he's been terrible for years is just that.  After getting paid he gave us a pretty good 2017, we took away the guy who was soaking up the double teams for 2018 and he still didn't do badly against that.  Then he got hurt.  This year is just one game old.

So what you're saying is that he is years removed from being an impact player? Agreed. We had the opportunity to move on from him and his contract, but Hurney in all of his infinite wisdom restructured his contract and kicked the can down the road on an aging, declining, injured player as he has done time and time again in the past and here we are again. The odd thing is that so many people take it out on the player. I don't blame it on KK. He didn't hold a gun to anyone's head for that contract or the restructure. I don't know that he isn't busting his ass and just physically doesn't have it anymore. That may very well be the case. The original contract at the time made sense. It was the restructure that didn't. What I'm not going to do though is sit here and engage in mental gymanstics to try to convince myself that KK should still be here because he used to be an impact player and seems like a good dude. It sucks to watch as a fan, but good NFL franchises part ways with aging declining players whose performances no longer align with their cap hits. That's just the way of the NFL. It's brutal but it's a brutal game and a brutal business and it's why I don't blame players for trying to get every dime they can get while they can get it.

"produced quite well"  despite losing a major chunk of the OLine and having someone meh placed next to him that caused KK to eat constant double teams?  I guess I read that differently than you.

Linville is part of the "GET RID OF KK AT ALL COSTS" camp. It's pretty much an irrelevant point of view because we aren't going to cut him during the season, he's untradeable and he doesn't have anyone behind him on the bench that is better than him.

The "GET RID OF KK" argument will make 100% sense after the season is over, which is when most of us expect him to be jettisoned. The "Cut KK" ship already sailed for 2020.

You're right. Cutting him now would do us no good. I wanted him gone before the season started despite the dead cap issue. Better to get it over with now than continue to deal with it past this season.

If Troy gets his head around there is a decent chance that ball gets swatted down.

Tre has deep middle.  He should be the one helping Pride.  But he bit on the underneath stuff and did not even look outside.  I get how people blame this TD on Pride.  But I put just as much if not more blame on Tre for this one.

I am not really blaming him at all. He was in his hip pocket. If he had simply gotten his head around he might have been able to deflect that pass or get his hand in there.
