Pretty stark contrast here.

If he isn't flashing more by game 5 or 6, I don't think we should expect to see him return to form. Tampa will be a good indicator because they are weak and/or inexperienced on the OL. If he(or really the DL as a whole) don't flash against these guys, it is a bad sign.

I stopped expecting him to return to form last year.

No, we didn't.  Star is very good, KK was very good.

Problem is, our GM doesn't know when to cut bait, and certainly doesn't understand just how F'ing stupid these restructures are.  On top of that, instead of drafting replacements and grooming them, we just keep the overpaid lazy guy on the roster because we need a Grier.

Didn’t we draft a defensive tackle with the seventh overall pick this year?

I know it "feels" like it's been forever since KK was "good" . . . but keeping in mind KK got a paid prior to the 2017 season let's consider the below:

His 2017 season was pretty strong.  Not quite up to the 2015/2016, but near enough that no one was concerned.  Then came 2018.  Oh, right, that's the year Star went to Buffalo and we put the utterly forgettable Dontari Poe next to him.  KK got all the double teams, and still produced quite well.  Yes, his sacks and QB hits went down, but he also only played 14 games.

Yea, he got hurt in 2019.  It happens.

So yea . . . KK hasn't been terrible for years.  In fact, he's really not been terrible at all.

I do agree, he's now on the wrong side of 30.  He's coming off an injury.  He's got a lot stacked against him.  It's not likely we'll ever see 2015/2016 KK again.

But the agenda / narrative that he's been terrible for years is just that.  After getting paid he gave us a pretty good 2017, we took away the guy who was soaking up the double teams for 2018 and he still didn't do badly against that.  Then he got hurt.  This year is just one game old.

It has been my observation for a while now that Boston will always choose whatever requires less effort and/or contact.

In your opinion has he always been that way, to me he just recently got this way. Was Boston signed before or after Rhule became HC? Cause I feel hes not what Rhule wants in a safety or football player.

Been watching the game film. This is pretty typical. Derrick Brown gets more penetration and causes more disruption double teamed than KK Short does 1 on 1 .

Want to see the difference between a decent player and a good player?   Watch Chinn and Thompson.  Chinn reads and immediately takes an angle to cover his man---Thompson freezes (staring at the QB) and allows himself to become a pick.  He steps up, into the crossing route, avoiding the pick--a good reaction---but who was his read?  Carr?  Should he have taken the seam to allow Boston to help deep?  I dunno, but that is WEAK.

It was man free robber coverage.  Shaq was the robber.  That means he basically he plays zone in the middle of the field at about a 5 or 10 yard dept and when a crossing route comes under him he knocks that player off his route.  He did exactally what he is suppose to do.  TD did the same thing for years the 2 times a game we ran that coverage under Ron.

Everyone in that coverage has a man except Shaq and Tre Boston.  They are the 2 zone defenders.

Yep nothing wrong with Shaq there. His entire job was to spy/pick. Had that been a more mobile QB he was in perfect position for either.

LV knew they were going to get the outside man bomb on that one. Their OC played us for chumps there.

If Troy gets his head around there is a decent chance that ball gets swatted down.

Yep I’m chalking it up to a rookie mistake in the first game from jitters and hopefully he learned his lesson in the film room from his team mates.

If he got his head around and played the ball he would be at no fault. Hell even if he took the PI there to stuff them at the one yard line. I’m confident he’ll learn.
