Holy crap, missed this post. This may be the most uneducated post about the draft and QB classes that I’ve ever seen. Kind of like saying when Jamarcus Russell and Tim Couch came out that they were graded anywhere near the Mannings or Luck it even Cam.

I’ll give you an easier example. Was drafting LeBron James the same thing as drafting Kwame Brown? They were both drafted first overall, so the Wizards must have had bad luck because going first overall means that Kwame and LeBron were equally talented and must have received the same grade.

I’ll admit that Lawrence and Fields aren’t guaranteed anything but they are likely to be graded (even with Fields maybe not being able to play this year) way above all those guys you mentioned. No guarantee <> all first round QBs have the exact same potential. Drafts are made on potential.

We would be lucky to get both and have a true chance on a Cam replacement. Sure, if the entire team gets improved around Teddy he could do well but we’d have a heckuva lot better chance at actually winning a SB if we had a great team around a franchise QB like we did in 2015. Is Teddy getting us to the SB in 2015? No.

Exactly. He also ignores all the great QB's taken at 1 recently as well with Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Kyler Murray just won OROY.

yikes guys come on it's week 1 and we just lost a nail biter. please stop "shitting on the team" by suggesting that we will be picking #1 overall. go be a fan of some other team!!!

My goodness. You sound like you might cry or something. Did you read the OP? It was clearly in jest especially since this may be the only week of the year where Washington and Jacksonville win. Shitting on the team? This isn’t a playoff team this year. Lighten up Francis.

Wasn't it (referring to your previous example) Jamarcus Russell and Brady Quinn (not Tim Couch)?   Either way, I get the point.

No, different post. This was just something I read along the way because it’s not nice to the team to laugh that Washington and Jacksonville, our biggest threats to the top pick according to Las Vegas, both won while we lost one of our winnable games. I was going to reply to that one next.

Comparing NBA Players to NFL players is foolish.  Different sport, fewer people involved, far easier for one person to make a difference.  Its a lot easier to say a guy who only shares a court with 4 other players is going to be a difference maker than a football player who depends on so much else to be successful.  If Trevor Lawrence played for Northwestern, very few would even know who he is.  But if a great bball player plays for a relatively small school, he can make a world of difference, as Larry Bird did.

And you missed my point.  I was primarily referring to all the comments about tanking to get specific players.  I grant that if we are in position to draft Lawrence, maybe we should.  But intentionally trying to get into position of drafting a guy who may or may not be a success in the NFL is a waste of time.

As far one being higher rated than the other, how do you quantify that, ie determine who is rated higher?  Jameis Winston was the highest rated qb in the draft during his year.  Many pundits rated him a sure fire success.  Trevor Lawrence will be the highest rated qb coming out this year unless something drastic happens.  Not sure you can say that one is or will be rated higher than the other.  I have seen some guys in an effort to get clicks on their site use measurements and math formulas.    Most of those end up meaningless.

If you look at the list of today's elite quarterbacks, almost none of them were the top graded qb's in their draft class.  Mahomes was not, Lamar Jackson was not, Watson was not.  Can't remember if Aaron Rogers was, but the point remains.  Aiming for a specific player by losing enough games is almost always a waste of time.   To difficult to get in that position, and no way to ensure the player is actually worth it until they are on the field.

Actually, while the NBA example is easier to see it’s still the same. It hasn’t been since Luck that there’s been talk of tanking for a player. Being the consensus top QB in a draft class is not the same as being someone people think could be the next Manning. Couch and Russell were my exaggerated examples. Winston is the same. Top QB in the draft class but Lawrence will be (Fields might, but not playing may hurt) graded like Luck not like Mayfield and Mariota or even Winston.

Seeing as how Lawrence and Fields were the top two HS football recruits in the country, they’d still have made news at Northwestern. Dismantling Alabama with a plethora of defensive talent, especially in the secondary was huge for Lawrence but he was also the top recruit in the country (or #2, Fields may have been #1) and Clemson’s top recruit.

Also, your examples aren’t meaningful. Of course there are QBs that were taken after pick 1 that are great. It still doesn’t dismiss the fact that QBs taken first have had a ton of success in SBs and HOF careers. So have first rounders in general. It’s not a perfect science but Lawrence is far more well regarded than any of the guys you mentioned before that were top picks. Was Winston talked about going first overall 2 years before he would be drafted? Lawrence, and Fields for that matter, will very likely get much higher grades than any of the recent top QB and even guys like Mahomes, Watson and Jackson. Doesn’t guarantee anything but you want to get the top pick when LeBron comes out not when Kwame does and that absolutely happens in the NFL draft with QBs. QBs just by their nature get over drafted so the top QB will almost always go way too high.

You can’t be serious. You think this team can win a Super Bowl with Teddy Bridgewater?

He silenced no one yesterday. I know it’s hard for Panthers fans to not accept mediocrity since we’ve done it for so long, but the ultimate goal is to win a title. Teddy can’t do that for us.

You must be a ball at your game watching parties although they probably end up parties of 1 by halftime. Just imagining you with tears forming yelling at your “friends” or action figures to leave gives me a chuckle. I’m not planning to leave but you really do need to lighten up Francis.

I'm super intrigued by Trey Nance.

I swear clemson fans are the main reason for all the Lawrences' hype. The scouts and professionals are leaning rather hard for Trey Lance. Wentz drafted #2 overall and has done it form the same school. Most feel Lance is a better Wentz, hes my pick between the top 3 QBs.  Id pick LT Sewell tho.
