The management side of it seems to be Mickey Loomis's forté. And the talent evaluation side of things (especially when it comes to the draft) has gotten really good since they brought Jeff Ireland on board.

Still hoping we try to steal either Ireland or Terry Fontenot.

(but knowing the Panthers, we'll probably wind up sticking with Marty Hurney)

Hurney is a foot fungus that just won't die. His decisions last year and this year are testaments to that. How many blowups does he get to do until a owner sees he's not even mediocre. Dave Sucked too but that's not an excuse to keep unsuccessful people.

We know Hurney and that he has led us to cap trouble and losing for over a decade.

Ha, true. But Scot’s statement was that knowing the Panthers, we’d retain Hurney. I guess in context I assumed Hurney was outside the hypothetical. Or maybe that’s just a defensive mechanism adapted over the years...Probably after we fired him and then brought him back.

Brees contract suggests hes retiring after this year. Also Payton made some comments suggesting such. If Brees retires that frees up  25 million next year when Kamara's extension begins.

If you look at the numbers the answer reveals itself.

Hopefully this will not be a fiasco like when we played Broncos and the NFL ensured Manning a send-off win(same with Brees) to ride off into the sunset scenario into retirement.

Kamara is one of the few Saints I respect, so congrats to him...  but, the thing that stood out to me in all of this was, if you were Dalvin Cook, after all the noise you made about getting an extension, the day you finally get it, a draft class-mate who you have outproduced recently by a solid margin gets his extension done on the same day...  and for significantly more money?  Ouch.  He can't be happy with his agent.
