Saints Money??? How do they do it? Alvin Kamara signing new contract

The management side of it seems to be Mickey Loomis's forté. And the talent evaluation side of things (especially when it comes to the draft) has gotten really good since they brought Jeff Ireland on board.

Still hoping we try to steal either Ireland or Terry Fontenot.

(but knowing the Panthers, we'll probably wind up sticking with Marty Hurney)

Watch New Orleans trade up for Trevor Lawrence, Fields or Lance. But we got one of the best recognizers of college talent.

Trading up to the top spot from late in the draft would take a ridiculous amount of draft capital that they don’t have. The top spot is extremely valuable this year. They’d probably have to include the next 4 first round picks and some seconds.

True...will be interesting to see if Fields can overtake Lawrence at #1.  He was better overall last year and Fields is ascending bigtime.

Without having seen the contract, it is basic middle school math really.

$15 signing bonus is $3 a year on the cap.

Base salary year one of $1

$4 against the cap in year one.

Let him play at $7 base in year two for a $10 cap hit.

Year 3 you June first him and spread the dead $9 over year 3 and 4.

(That $75 figure is reached by base money in the $16-18 range in year 4 and 5 that the team has no interest in ever paying).

All just a guess, but this is one way to do it.

I’d be happy with both, but I think Lawrence’s career is more complete, especially if Fields doesn’t play this year. I have a hard time thinking someone who could go top two is going to play college football during the draft and pre-season. Having good top QB prospects is why I wanted to “tank” as people call it and that’s without anyone else pulling a Burrow.

To be fair do we “know” these Panthers yet? *As the depth chart cheat sheet prints in the background”.
