It is, but $23.65M against the cap is still $23.65M against the cap. It jumps to $36.15M next year.

Yep. And even if he retires, you’re left with replacing him. It’s pretty likely they won’t have enough to sign a high profile qb, especially with some of their other needs. Curious to see how this Kamara deal changes that.

I know they gave him the 2 year 21 million but I’m not sure I’m convinced they think he’s the heir to the throne. I mean look at last year. Brees goes down, Bridgewater was the next man up.

Not a bad move really. It is a lot of money, but he is the kind of guy (like CMC) that is special enough that even with a non-franchise level QB can at least be some resemblance of decent.

If Brees is done after this year this signing is an insurance policy for the next QB up that hey bro...you can just hand it off and learn and grow and take your time.

Maybe I’m biased but it seems like a slight overpay, was expecting around $13-14 instead of $15.  Dude is a great player but the best ability is availability.  Hopefully he can stay healthy because the game is more fun with good players.  But the Saints somehow get around the salary cap every year so it doesn’t really matter.

Don’t know why Panther fans are so surprised.

The Panthers have the most dead cap in the NFL, as they did after Hurney’s spending spree several years ago that crippled the team for years. 2015 was a result of overcoming coaching, bargain hunting Gettle (who was always vocal about being strapped and not able to do anything) and frankly Cam going super Sayan on the NFL. But don’t be fooled into thinking the cap was fine.

The Panthers claim to want to build through the draft. But what has happened in the past when those drafted established a dominating team? It fell apart because of awful cap decisions and paying wrong players...when you can’t sustain/pay most of your stars because you’re not  handling the cap right you become one hit wonders because bargain hunting isn’t sustainable, and involves a lot of luck. Star, Norwell, Norman, Butker are just recent examples. There simply wasn’t enough money due to poor decisions.

I’m not going to get into blaming the GM or individual players, but the Panthers are bottom tier when it comes to extending fan favorites, worthless players, one hit wonders, signing or not signing free agents, getting burnt by overlooking past injury, and being able to recognize if a player will/is worth falling off a cliff after getting paid.

When the huddle starts making better predictions on contracts than the professionals it’s time to worry.

In essence, the Panthers have failed at the cap, contracts, extensions and signings for just about as long as I can remember. They’re always behind, always playing catch up and making atrocious decisions.

Really hope the future is different.
