Bourbon street report

Recommended Posts

This is a little unrelated, but my family and I have to go down for a conference in a little over a week. We're staying down by Bourbon, but don't remember exactly where... We heard from someone to not go out and drive by yourself or anything at night, as parts of the city are still pretty bad off and abandoned... They said a lot of people get mugged, assaulted, etc. b/c of this.

Any suggestions as to what's safe/what's not... We've never been there before.

the only abandoned parts of the city are the 9th ward and the poor parts of New Orleans East, and if you went here at night pre-Katrina you were probably looking to score some crack.

as for violence, it's like all major cities, it's pretty much confined to sh*t areas like Central City, Treme, HollyGrove, etc. Not in the French Quarter or most areas of the city. Millions and millions of tourists visit the city every year and have no problem. why would that be any different for you or your friends who went to the city?

Then I assume it wouldn't be any different. I was just asking b/c of what I was told. I'm a pretty smart guy as far as scouting out places before I just wonder around, lol. But, I thought there could be a bit more risk b/c of the abandoned areas in New Orleans after Katrina. From what you said, sounds like it's been cleaned up pretty well. I look forward to visiting...

And I don't plan on scoring any crack, so I should be good, lol. Thanks Saint!

Downtown New Orleans(CBD, FQ, Warehouse District) didn't take much of a hit at all from Katrina and depending on who you ask, is better off than before the storm. Glad I could help out and don't hesitate to PM me if you need any advice when planning your trip.

I concur since I work in the CDB. Much more cleaner, and user friendly, although since Katrina it seems to have brought in an influx of out-of-town begging bums and hippies.

Only have run into a few panthers fans thus far. Saints fans for the most part have been friendly. Can't remember the name of the bar, but it was one with live music, anyway, the female lead singer says "WHO DAT?? We are gonna beat Jacksonville on Sunday!!!"

A bar... in NO?... with live music! Well, that narrows it down a bit. Sounds like you're having a good time. I'm glad to hear it. We have friendly fans. Even the Jets fans say so... bastards. :biggrinjester:
