Panthers had the oldest defense in the NFL in 2018. They now have the youngest defense in the NFL in 2020. They do NOT have the youngest defense in a decade.

2018 starting defense average age: 28.9. Didn't help their average age having super old dudes like Mike Adams (37), Julius Peppers (38), and Thomas Davis (35) as key starters. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2019/2018-snap-weighted-age - this metric was calculated by total snaps.

While we don't know how many actual snaps any player will take yet, the current 2020 starting defense average age is: 25.1.

DE: Burns: 22

DT: Brown: 22

DT: Short: 31

DE: Gross-Matos: 22

OLB: Thompson: 26

MLB: Whitehead: 30

OLB: Chinn: 22

CB: Jackson: 24

S: Boston: 28

S: Burris: 27

CB: Pride: 22

That is with Jeremy Chinn (22) starting over Jermaine Carter (25) at OLB which I think we will see more of on game day. It is NOT the youngest defense in a decade. The Cowboys defense had an average age of 24.7 in 2018, based on total snaps played. So this number could go DOWN if older players play less snaps for the Panthers, or go up if older players play over younger players more.

Either way, while they do have a very young defense, all this talk about the Panthers having the youngest defense in a decade is currently incorrect.

Still, from oldest to youngest in the league in 2 years turnover time is quite an achievement.

Also, upon a cursory glance, if I'm reading it correctly,  that Cowboys defense in 2018 was Top 10 in the league, so there is hope.

That's usually too much turnover. You ready for Saturday, and poo?

On December 30, 2018, the day on which the bulk of the Week 17 games were played, the Cowboys had a snap-adjusted age of 9,400 days - or 25.7 years.

Snap adjusted age sounds like a terrible disease you die from 200.gif
