Panthers are not done at the cornerback position

So the plan is to bring in a veteran to help the youth get experienced?

I think they(Marty and Rhule) are still in "win now" mode mentally. Which, Rhule has to be. Marty needs to be the big boy in the room and realize that we aren't going to be served well by not seeing what we have. We can always bring in a veteran player in a few weeks if Donte or Pride or whoever is getting absolutely railed to the extent that you wonder if they are going to be mentally broken by the experience. This is especially important with Donte because he has been proven to have a fairly fragile psyche.

If we can find a starter through a trade I am all for it especially if they are young.  The point of having draft picks is to find reasonably priced starters and contributors. Why save a draft pick to find a corner we have to develop and suffer while they learn when we can get a starter someone has already developed?

Did we really *over invest* at LB with that Kuechly/Thomas Davis combo?  Seem to recall we had them on fairly team friendly deals.

I'm talking about long before Luke/TD. It's been a nearly ever-present roster them for the Panthers. Lots of money in LBs, hardly anything spent at CB.

Because that player is going to be closer to his second contract and nothing I've seen from the Panthers convinces me we'd be willing to spend to keep a good CB. A legit starter on his rookie contract is also going to demand premium trade compensation and/or have some serious off-field or injury concerns.

I also dont necessarily disagree with that plan.

A CB is much easier to neutralize on the defense that your LB group.  Maybe not to the extreme levels the Panthers do at times.

I remember when we still had Josh Norman.  He locked down Odell.  So they just..moved Odell.  Or created situations Norman couldn't match up against him.  Odell ended up with a pretty decent game.

Yeah, we are best dumpster diving or finding stop gap measures if we can't make due with what we have at the moment.

The growing pains may suck but putting Worley and Bradberry out there to take lumps in year one also allowed us to see what we had.

    • I dont know what else would be expected, he is a RB and one of the top paid ones for awhile, you dont pay a RB big money and then go RBBC approach.  If he didnt want to be a work horse, dont sign up for it, go be a slot WR or something.
