If Gross-Matos starts, we would have 4 draft picks starting on the defense---3 is unheard of--but FOUR?  that is over a third of the defense.

Don't y'all start cursing Pride and saying "He sucks!" when these veteran QBs start going after him.  They will.

Don't mind it, little trial by fire before the Bucs game Week 2.

We know what Apple is, and it's not a solution.  Need to see if DJax can regain his rookie year potential, while also throwing our own rookies and as much crap against the wall as possible to see what sticks this year.  We know the secondary is going to be rough, so let's see who learns and grows into a player.

It is gonna be a rough year, regardless. Get the young guys as many reps as possible to see what we have. Also need to see if guys like Moton, Jackson, Samuel, etc are in our future plans.

I am already getting a little excited to see what we have. I hope to be cautiously optimistic in 8-10 weeks.

We need to be patient with most of these younger guys. The team is set up to fail in the short term, so it is unfair to throw too many darts. We need to see the best from our vets, though. Gonna make that next career step.

Do we think Grier winning the backup role is a sign of his growth or a statement of how overrated the XFL was? I know there have been good reports about Grier but he was NO WHERE near a nfl caliber backup last year. Hoping he worked his butt off all summer and is ready to step in if needed.

I'm not ready to say he's figured it all out in a difficult and unprecedented off-season, but I do think he took a long hard look in the mirror and realized if he wants to continue to play professional football, even in a career backup type of capacity, he's got to continue to grow and get better.

The article that came out not that long ago was refreshing to hear.  Admitted he sucked in his limited playing time last year, but the most important thing I took away from that article was the fact that it sounds like he's made a lot of progress on the mental side of the game.  In other words, knowing how to prepare while knowing you aren't the QB1.  I imagine that's difficult for a QB that's always been "the guy" on all his previous teams.

I’m patient. I do expect to start winning in two-three years though. That’s plenty of time.

I hope to see the same trajectory that Rhule had at Temple and Baylor. 1st year the losses pile ,up as the foundation gets built. 2nd year is roughly .500 as the pieces get put into place. In the 3rd year you're ready to win for real.

If Apple isn't even active just get it over with and cut him already.

Of course you cut an Apple, after you peel it.  I suppose your next idea will be to shuck Corn?

Or stew Rotten tomatoes?  (Gross-Matos) reaching, but it works.

Here all week.

I wouldn't be too quick to judge Grier by his awful performances last year. I mean, if that wasn't the absolute worst case scenario for a rookie QB to get a shot, it was very close to it.

Meh, he was just plain bad. What’s the difference between Allen starting a game in 2018 and Grier starting two in 2019? I know Allen fell apart, although when your LT gives up 14 pressures and 3 sacks in 1 game it’s not surprising, but it was night and day between him and Grier. Even when Allen came into the NO game last year after Grier he looked 10x better. That’s not anything about Allen, more about how absolutely awful Grier looked after a full offseason and 15 weeks of practice.

Maybe he will improve, but I’m not going off no pressure/hit practice with no preseason to review. I still think we are bottom of the barrel if Teddy gets hurt.

We just learned that he has had a Hamstring---not sure if that is why he has been unimpressive or if there are other reasons.  But cutting him for......?

If he sucks, I might try him at different spots, different schemes/coverages and see if there is a place for him.  I do not know--nor does anyone on the Huddle.  So cutting a player because you are caught up in negative hype is fine--if there is an outcome that improves the team.  Rhule takes guys like this and turns them around.  Give him a chance before you fire up your tiki torches and grab your pitchforks.
