Do we think Grier winning the backup role is a sign of his growth or a statement of how overrated the XFL was? I know there have been good reports about Grier but he was NO WHERE near a nfl caliber backup last year. Hoping he worked his butt off all summer and is ready to step in if needed.

I think between PJ and Robinson its more of an indictment on the XFL if anything

Why not both?

Grier won the job by looking like the more complete pocket passer. In particular throws a nicer long ball than PJ.

My worry would be that the competition was between 2 players that should not be rostered in the nfl. If Grier beat PJ and looked like an NFL player doing it, than that’s great news.

I like that Pride is starting, but he is going to take some lumps this year. If he is decent this season it is a great sign for the future.

Agreed.

Let's all try to keep in mind he will be a 4th round pick starting Week One as a rookie with a brand new coaching staff, very little vet experience at his position to give him guidance, and the coronaverse as an offseason. Can't think of many players thrown into situations more challenging than that. If he's decent this year it bodes very well for the future.

I wouldn't be too quick to judge Grier by his awful performances last year. I mean, if that wasn't the absolute worst case scenario for a rookie QB to get a shot, it was very close to it.

Last year's Panthers is similar to rookie David Carr's situation. He was ruined before he had a chance to show what he could do. It really isn't supposed to be THAT hard.

It's amazing how long Cam survived behind the olines this team has marched out there to protect our QB. No other QB could have done it. I'm confident in making that statement. In 2018, Heinicke and Kyle Allen were both injured in their respective games - 1 game and injured. In 2019, Kyle Allen was strip-sacked so many times he had more fumbles in his first 5 games than Kenjon Barner had in his entire career - may be a little hyperbole there, I didn't fact check that. Add in a place holder coaching staff and I can not give up on Will Grier after that HELL.
