3.  A few folks will accept the season for what it is, hopefully see the growth potential as well as the gaping flaws, and actually enjoy watching their favorite team play whether we win or lose.

When both success and failure, joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, gain and loss all become acceptable, life becomes a magnificent adventure with no troubles at all.

Go Panthers.

I think the circumstances of this season will help inexperienced teams like Carolina. Nobody is really sure what they’re working with until game day. It’ll also be interesting to see how home teams use piped in crown noise to create an advantage

Raiders fans are roasting Tahir Whitehead on their subreddit. Some quotes I saw:

"I said last year that a playoff team does not start Tahir Whitehead at a position. If Whitehead is starting for the Panthers, I would advice Carolina fans to stock up on booze."

"Whitehead is pretty terrible in pass defense so I’m sure the Raiders will target him in coverage since he will be matched up against (TE) Darren Waller."

"Darren Waller will eat this Sunday."

They are also roasting the Panthers cornerbacks.

"Secondary looks extremely exploitable. If we don't put up 30+ we are a very bad team"

"Their defense looks like our 2013 level bad. The season we just cut everyone and started CBs that were post 4th preseason game cuts from other teams."

But I also saw a bunch of comments about how negative and sad Raiders fans are, so who knows. Seems like this game is a tossup based on fan pessimism and negativity.

I have no high expectations for this game or the season. ( it's 2020, maybe that's good for us )

I think this first game,  coaching will be extremely important.  The raiders don't know what we'll be like.  Should we win,  other teams will now have film and adjustments made.  If we lose, maybe we'll have a fast track learning curve. I worry about our linebackers ..

I have very low expectations and just look forward to seeing improvement from week to week.  We should have some stars in the making on defense and it will be fun to watch their development.  Our offense should score points and if they don't, we have huge problems because the front office has invested in offensive players and coaches that pride themselves in scoring points.

So, you traded for a back up QB, Bridgewater, and expect him to start 16 games. You hired a college HC and expect him to outsmart the pros. You signed a Raiders reject to be your starting LB, Whitehead.

Wow! Are you in for a surprise season!

No preseason = no practice for a new HC and a new QB. It's preseason game ONE for the Panthers and regular season game ONE for the Raiders whose offense has at least 4 returning o-linemen, 2 returning RBs, a returning TE and a legitimate returning starting QB. It'll be the adults vs. the high school all stars.

Gruden is going to pound your DEs and OLBs mercilessly with outside runs and short passes. Your offense is going to be sitting on the bench. I foresee 40+ runs and fewer than 16 passes for the Raiders. Time of possession should be about 38m:22m in favor of the Raiders.

It's lucky for you that McCaffery is healthy... he saves you from the shut out loss.

Raiders 34

Panthers 7

Don't bet the house on Bridgewater mania. I watched him in Minny. He isn't your savior. Half of the back up QBs still in the NFL could have won those same games with the Saints that Bridgewater won last year. Half of them!

Panthers are one injury away from the #1 draft pick in 2021 derby. Sorry that you have to watch a season of this, but the Raiders have had many seasons of this since 2000, so it's only fair that another team feels our pain.

Thank you for reading my post. Good luck, you're going to need it.

and what exactly makes you think the Raiders won't continue to have "seasons of this".  Yes, Carolina has a lot of change going on.  But we fully expect to lineup and play.....the Raiders.

There's a contract, you have to line up and play... no defaults allowed.

Raiders now have Top 16 roster talent. Panthers, not so much. To win consistently, it takes roster talent. Raiders have had bottom 12 roster talent for at least 10 of the last 20 seasons.  Last year, they were close to Top 20 roster talent. Gruden understands the game. Raiders could have won more games last year... but played for where they finished. Part of Gruden's 5 year plan. Most HCs have a 5 year plan. Many of them never make it to year 5.

I wasn't one of the fans who believed in any of the last 5 year's roster talent. I believe in this year's roster talent. You'll see.

Well, we know Gruden.  We have gone up against that brain and his plans many times.  Can’t really come to the NFCS and pimp Gruden like that.

and we will see I guess.  Best bet?  We both tune in and see the Raiders.  They tend to be one of the things you can rely on.  Doesn’t look like a top 16 talented team from this perspective.   Still the same tier as you have been IMO.  I do like the WR from the draft.  Hopefully that Raider WR curse doesn’t get him like it has so many.

I’d say you are close to being a push offensively with a team like Carolina.  Better D talent.  Coaching simply is an unknown as we can’t even guess how that plays out.

Why Carolina wins? The Raiders are traveling east coast week 1 in the year of COVID...to face a team that has game planned for them.  Once the game settles in after opening series? Carolina will at least know what the Raiders are doing on both sides in large part.   Raiders won’t be able to say the same.

But I am a huge fan of Hunter Renfrow.  Love that little dude.  Just not this Sunday.
