we win the game. keep drives alive, keep the defense all the field, get a few turnovers but also get burnt. 34-30

Almost impossible to get that many points . j Gruden loves to run the ball- a lot of long time consuming drives that limit other teams time of possession.

So we will see a lot of "run-run-pass-punt" from the Raiders.  We had a coach like that too

Well you’re going to find out in a hurry .  J Gruden loves to run the football with Josh Jacobs and Fb Alec Ingold, and what might be the best offense line in football.  Gruden likes to play with two Te formations, and don’t be surprise he plays with three occasionally.

T Whitehead is very good fun defender , and you can bet Raiders will try to get their backs matched up on him as much as possible.

Know doubt.  We know Gruden well around these parts.   We know in large part exactly what Oakland is going to do on Sunday.

We just have absolutely no clue about our own team.  Everything is brand new.  We got some returning players but scheme/coach/etc is all different.

As far as defending the run goes, we will have beef up front at DT we didn't have last year in terms of defending the run.  Our best DT was hurt last year and we got our first rounder.   So I imagine we will be better given the talent this year and the switch back to a 4-3.

Only thing that can stop this offense is J Gruden.   He’s too conservative , and he needs to open up the offense .  With that said the Raiders are going to move the ball versus the Panthers.   Raiders were 14 in total yards last year , but were 24 in points. ( that has to improve)   This offense has way more speed And weapons than last year version.     Raiders can’t settle for field goals, as they have to get TDS. This is the NFL every team has been up front, the Raiders have one of the biggest offense lines in the game.

Yeah, that has been the Carolina Panther narrative for like the last 2 decades.   I mean it works, until it doesn't work.

Jon Gruden took Tony Dungy's Bucs to the Superbowl then dragged them to the cellar literally in record time.

Difference he has M Mayock who has been  excellent job in the draft.   Gruden terrible developing young QBs - he had a Qb already on the roster when he can back.    The biggest improvement Gruden has made is he used to rely on old veterans , over young players.  That isn’t the case now as you look at the roster it’s young kids, over the older veterans.  Still has to get more aggressive, as he can be too conservative for my liking,

Ironic how both Gruden and Brian Billick both had QB guru reputations as coaches and both (at least so far) struggled mightily to find and develop QBs as head coaches.

Spread is at 3.5 now.  Opened 1.5.

I wonder how no crowds factor into the spread?

I am not a sports betting person but having had a roommate as one for about 3 years I can tell you the spread goes where the money goes.  If a lot of people start betting on the Panthers the spead will shift towards the Panthers favor.  If the money goes to people betting on the Raiders, which it has, the spread goes to the Raiders favor.  Home team use to get 3 points as a general rule then you adjust the line to get the most people betting either side.  Covid 19 really has no effect on that but west coast teams going east usually had a penalty.  Anywhere from 1 to 3 points

    • First off, he's not even eligible for a contract yet.  You have to play three years. And thank goodness! All we saw last year were glimpses.  Yes, those glimpses were enough that I think every fan wants to see him come back next year.  But bottom line is that so far, with only a couple games worth of exceptions, he hasn't yet shown that he's a FRANCHISE QB.  He hasn't shown the consistent ability to elevate the players around him. He could be the guy.  After week two of this year, just saying that much is a massive, massive positive swing.  But let's see him put it together for 17 games.  Let's see him make the people around him BETTER.  Then we can talk about extending him. Let's not lose sight of the fact that thus far in his career, in no season has BY exceeded the rookie stats of MAC JONES. We should  be excited for the possibility, but we certainly haven't seen yet what we need to see to declare we have our guy.
    • People cared as it was happening, but after a year or two, most people had moved on. There was no public outcry to bring the NBA back to Charlotte, it just happened.
    • I can agree with that.  Fwiw, I wish we would go back to the 4-3 and bring in a more traditional defensive end.   That being said, I will point out that some thought Thomas Davis would be a safety when we drafted him.  It was of course clear early that lb was his best position.
