Raiders defensive coordinator Paul Gunther’s scheme doesn’t match up well with a quick tempo offense like Joe Brady is planning on running. If the Panthers are crisp, it might bode well to score some points in this one.

The Raiders really upgraded their speed on both sides of the ball .
Raiders lbs were Achilles heal of the defense for a longtime but that isn’t the case anymore , as they upgraded their  Lb corps With N Kwiatkoski , Corey Littleton , and Raekwon Mc Millan( run stuffer)  .   Mostly will see N Kwiatkoski and Littleton in there .( both can cover).
Raiders young defense line is up and coming .    This is very talented cb group that are either rookies or second year players.( tough to say what  they will look like being so inexperience) T Mullen and D Arnette will be the starting cb’s .   L Joyner is the nickel cb.( he was horrible in that role last year - must do much better this year,  Erik Harris, and Johnathan Abrams are the safeties.

Exciting to see this defense in action with the big upgrades on defense.( on paper, as we have to see it in a game).

The offense is way more a given.  First starts up front with what might be the best offense line in the NFL.   Josh Jacobs( very good back) and Fb Alec Ingold .   The Raiders Te are definitely a big strength all are good blockers and receivers( D Waller - very fast who might move outside to wr occasionally , J Moreau, and J Witten - old Willy veteran) .     The Raiders wr it looks like will start two rookies Henry Ruggs, and B Edwards( talk of training camp) with Hunter Renfrow in the slot.     Derek Carr will QB this team.

Raiders know T Whitehead very well ( very good run stuffer) but is terrible in coverage.  Gruden will Try to get him matched Up with one of the Raiders RBs in coverage.

lets see what happens  in this game.

I think it’ll be very tough to take anything away from this game as the Raiders are a big wildcard too. Either way hoping we start off the season on a good note with a big win and Teddy showing a full command of Brady’s offense. Any positives at all on the other side of the ball will be considered a bonus to me.

My prediction: extremely sloppy game with both teams scoring in the 30s, Panthers come out on top.

The  Raiders really upgraded their defense on paper .( game isn’t played on paper)  Still I will be extremely disappointed if the Panthers score 30 points this game.  ( also Gruden likes to eat up the clock with long drives Very doubtful you get a chance to score that much). This Raiders defense extremely young on defense but they are very fast defense.( this looks like the best defense talent they have had in sometime).   Raiders lb have been a joke for years not this year with C Littleton, N Kwiatoski, and Raekwon    McMillan ( more run stuffer) .  Raider cbs are extremely young as they are either rookies or second year players.  More worried about the veteran L Joyner who is the nickel cb, and who was god awful in that role last year . Has to play a lot better or one of the young cb will take his job

The offense is more a given.  It starts upfront with what might be the best offense line in  football.   D Carr has so many weapons at his disposal.   Josh Jacobs and Fb Alec Ingold are very potent duo in the backfield .   J Richard is the third down back  .All the Raiders Tight ends can block and catch.  Darren Waller is  a beast who is very fast( might line up outside occasionally at Wr) ,Foster Moreau, and Jason Witten- old wily veteran.   Raiders will start two rookie wrs Henry Ruggs, and B Edwards( talk of Raiders camp) and Hunter Renfrow will Line up in slot.

Carr is check down Charlie more so than Teddy.

Not with the weapons he has on offense this year .   D Waller right up there with the fastest Te in the game today.   H Ruggs, and R Gafford are both sub 4.3 ‘s.    B Edwards another rookie Wr Carr loves this type of Wr who will go up and make a play on the football( Carr compares his skill  Set to Davante Adams)  .

Last year Raiders wr corps was suppose to be A Brown, Tyrell Williams, with Te D Waller .   A Brown never played a down, and T Williams hurt his foot after week five and was never the same Wr.    If they had that group you can bet they were throwing the football down the field.  When you don’t have the weapons you have to find another way to move the ball down the field. .

I don’t know much about this team.  I think the singular thing I will most interested in....is our ability to play the run on defense.    Can we do that better than last year.  Last year would have been a total different season if we had that ability.

Well you’re going to find out in a hurry .  J Gruden loves to run the football with Josh Jacobs and Fb Alec Ingold, and what might be the best offense line in football.  Gruden likes to play with two Te formations, and don’t be surprise he plays with three occasionally.

T Whitehead is very good fun defender , and you can bet Raiders will try to get their backs matched up on him as much as possible.

Do you want me to post articles of Cooper being wide open downfield and Carr not throwing to him

Do you know exactly who the Raiders Were starting at tackle those years. ( want to throw deep Qb must have time). Two A Cooper was the only speed threat the Raiders had .( teams were double teaming him.  Three A Cooper had a lot of drops that M Crabtree was his  go to Wr.( Reliable pass catcher)    .   See A Cooper rookie year and Carr and Cooper connected on a lot of deep passes.( YouTube Amari Cooper rookie year)

Sounds like a great test for Derrick Brown right off the bat.

I just looked at their depth chart and I have to say they have a solid team. They have a QB that is coming off a 4k yard 70% comp % rate and 100+ rating. A rookie RB that had 1,000+ yards and looked great, a 1,000 yard TE, a 10 sack DE, good offensive line and lots of top young talent like Ferrell. They seem to have a good defensive line that has great depth. Their secondary is probably Their weakness but they have a 1st rounder from Ohio state starting and a 2nd year 2nd round pick Mullen starting. They are young but have potential. Their WR group is the same, young but lots of potential and they have a 1st rounder Ruggs who has lots of potential, 3rd rounder and Renfrow who is coming off a solid rookie year.

this isn’t your normal mediocre raiders team.

A lot of Raider fans were hoping he dropped to their pick, as he’s going to be a good one.   Where I expect to see the Raiders run behind is Trent Brown 6’8 380 versus B Burns 250 - that’s 130 pounds he’s giving up.  Lt Kolton Miller Is one of the best run blockers, as he will see the rookie Y Gross -Matos.   Also whenever the Raiders see T Whitehead, I expect to try to get him matchup with any of there backs in coverage.  ( big advantage for the Raiders).

    • OK, so this is a bit weird.  When I coached at Salisbury High School when I first started teaching, I used to go over to Catawba College to watch film and talk football with their coaches.  They were great. Curtis, Jalon's father, I assume, was a LB at Catawba and hired as LB coach by Bennett When Coastal started their program, they hired Catawba's coach Bennett.  Bennett must have taken Jalen's father with him to Coastal. I am guessing that is about the time Jalon was born and why he was in Conway. So then his father comes back to Salisbury after Jalen is born and takes the head coaching job. Jalen is a good interview.  I love the kid based on this, and I have heard good things from former colleagues of FB.  Salibury (when I was there) was a very rough school.  Gangs, drugs, etc.  To put it in perspective, I was there for 2.5 years and I had four (4) students in my class (at different times) who committed murder during that time. A girl was raped in the gym by a few boys.  One night, after a game (there is a road between the coaches offices in the gym and the rest of the school) the coaches watched film until 1 AM or so.  When we were leaving to walk to our cars parked across that street, we noticed a car sitting in the middle of the road about 100 yards away with its lights off.  The driver took off when we neared the street, so we all hit the ground.  As the car passed, we heard about 6 or 7 gunshots.  The next day, the van behind where we fell to the ground had 2 bullet holes in it, about 5 feet above the ground.  All that to say this:  If the young man on the video endured anything like that, I want him to succeed and I found it interesting that he mentioned playing for the Panthers.  I am not sold on the player as a fit here based on our needs, but I am sold on the person.  Very proud of him for some reason that many may not understand.
    • First off, he's not even eligible for a contract yet.  You have to play three years. And thank goodness! All we saw last year were glimpses.  Yes, those glimpses were enough that I think every fan wants to see him come back next year.  But bottom line is that so far, with only a couple games worth of exceptions, he hasn't yet shown that he's a FRANCHISE QB.  He hasn't shown the consistent ability to elevate the players around him. He could be the guy.  After week two of this year, just saying that much is a massive, massive positive swing.  But let's see him put it together for 17 games.  Let's see him make the people around him BETTER.  Then we can talk about extending him. Let's not lose sight of the fact that thus far in his career, in no season has BY exceeded the rookie stats of MAC JONES. We should  be excited for the possibility, but we certainly haven't seen yet what we need to see to declare we have our guy.
    • People cared as it was happening, but after a year or two, most people had moved on. There was no public outcry to bring the NBA back to Charlotte, it just happened.
