We have to be thinking special teams with our 4th WR.  Butler is a decent dude with no role in this league.

We should be thinking special teams with all of our bottom of the roster type guys. I'd love to see us get away from these "core special teamers". Unless you're putting the foot in football or you're an elite return man, you shouldn't be making rosters based on special teams ability. "Core Gunners"? GTFO of here with that. Long snapper? Okay, I'll give ya that one.

Yep, I liked him coming out of Miami but his pre-draft workouts were a bit concerning. He definitely tested significantly less athletic than I thought he would. Pre-workouts I thought he was a 4-3 DE. Post-workouts, I thought he was a 3-4 DE. I still wanted him in the 5th last year since after drafting Burns and Miller it sure looked like we were eyeing a full on switch to a 3-4 that never materialized.

He has gotten up to 285--not sure where he is now.  But he is not very athletic--good post.

I remember many years ago reading an article about special teams and how teams like ours that focused on extra full backs and linebackers got toasted in special teams because our special teams players weren’t athletic enough. Teams that had extra CB’s and WR’s had more speed on ST and didn’t give up huge field positions on kickoffs and punts.

I could be mis-remembering the whole thing but I swear it was along those lines and it made sense as to why our ST always got shredded.

I think I read that too and I think it was a PFF article.  It was more about punts and kickoffs and how teams that had 9 or 10 DB's and 6 or 7 WR's and used them on ST coverage teams tended to have better coverage units than teams that kept 7 LB or 9 or 10 OL or DL players and used them on ST coverage teams.

It's really more about common sense.  Who is going to get down the field faster a 200 lb DB or a 270 lb DL.

In the days of wedges having extra LBs was a good thing.  We didn't adapt and change as usual.
