2018-2019 were CMC's best seasons, 2017 as a rookie was underwhelming

2017 - 11 wins

2018 - 7 wins

2019 - 5 wins

What a waste of money. Panthers going to Panther.

CMC as a rookie still managed 80 receptions.    Which is absurd.   As a pass catcher he was basically Marshall Faulk out of the gate.

What are your feelings about having CMC topping the list? Part of me thinks having a running back in this day and age making that kind of money is pretty silly. Decent running backs are inexpensive.

Another part of me realizes how much CMC will likely do in the Panthers offense and think the pay is earned. CMC in the past has setup every single thing to happen in the offense, I see no reason why that would change. He makes defenses adjust be merely being on the field.

Completely agree. On the one hand most will agree that CMC is the best RB in the league and he adds to his value by being a dual threat.

On the other hand Fournette a young RB with 1600 yards from scrimmage last year was available a week before the start of the season for a quarter of that money.

The trouble with CMC is that he can be a player who can tip the balance in a superbowl. But the Panthers won't get close to it. So is that cap allotment wasted even though he's great fun to watch?

IMO the reality is that he will win games and just do enough to make us mediocre, preventing a high pick who can truly change the trajectory of the franchise. To me it looks like the Panthers devoted a ton of cash to players like CMC and Bridgewater who will ensure that we stay middle of the pack. It's far preferable to stink and get a blue chip player than be mediocre.

On principle, I wouldn't pay RBs. This is an exception imo. His tool-set puts him in a different classification for me - to make no mention of his work ethic. I'm surprisingly ok with it.

I'm against paying RBs.  I too agree CMC is an exception.

But it is really bad timing for that exception to the rule to be happening in this window for a franchise.  Because we aren't in position for him to put us over the top.

There’s another Panthers running back on that list I would argue is more overpaid than the guy who just put up a 1000/1000 season....

No poo. The fact that he’s still on the team is crazy. He was one of the “easy” cap space moves of the offseason. The fact that we have a second RB on the list is crazy. He’s making $1.5M per 2019 carry.

I’m fine with CMC getting paid that much. He is our offense. He’s as valuable to us as the top WRs in the league. It’s just that simple. RBs May be devalued but CMC is not devalued on our team.

Let’s put it this way, who’s team would suffer the most with an injury, the Panthers with CMC or the Saints with Michael Thomas or Dallas with Cooper or Atlanta with Julio? I’d argue that he’s as important to our offense as those guys are to theirs.

Based on results:

1. Thomas

2. Cooper

3. Julio

4. CMC

An awful lot of what we've done on offense over the past few years has been dependent on the threat of McCaffrey as much as McCaffrey himself. Opposing DCs have pretty much keyed their entire defense around stopping him.

I don't really see that changing under Brady.

I really hope that isn't the case because the results haven't been exactly stellar.

2018 - Yards 10th, Points 14th

2019 - Yards 20th, Points 19th

If we are once again loading the entire offense on CMC's shoulders, I suppose we will be looking at a top 5 draft pick.

I thought the entire purpose of this Brady offense was to spread the ball around and not force feed it through one player? We saw enough of that with Rivera.

I am still trying to understand why the panthers forced feed CMAC the ball all year, even when it was obvious we were going nowhere.  It just added more wear and tear on his body and got him a ton of more yards and catches and in turn we built his case for his huge contract.  Such a stupid mistake.

It was so ridiculous. Let's just add 3x the mileage to our young star player. He was visibly gassed late in the season and in some of the games.

If we do the same ignorant poo and run this kid into the ground in the next two years, I will be fully off the Brady/Rhule bandwagon.

Remember, I said the threat of McCaffrey, not just McCaffrey.

I'm definitely one of the folks that doesn't want us overusing him. Lord knows Rivera was prone to that.

On the flipside though, if he's having a dominant day, do you really say to yourself "I need to get the ball to Brandon Zylstra some more"?

And yeah, if I'm an opposing DC, he's where I devote my attention. DJ Moore has certainly looked good, but I wouldn't put him in the "devote my top cornerback to him" category just yet.
