As an aside, people with boatloads of money and liquid assets don't obtain that wealth by making bad business decisions or being poor owners. If this drags on for a year or two, what benefit will employing people with no chance of advancing themselves provide? Is this the kick in the butt America needed to demolish the individualism that really is the only thing that has separated us from the rest of the world? Or is there simply rage because a billionaire laid someone off in a time where there are conceivably less jobs?

When would there be a good time? What was he planning to do prior to the pandemic? Were these shifts coming anyway? What does the Panthers balance sheet look like? etc., so on, so forth.

It would have been better to just cut to the quick.

"I make decisions based on the success of this organization." Thats it. All the explanation needed. No headline there.

Trying to sell being laid off during a pandemic as a good thing.... whoooo buddy.

Word economy is never a bad practice.

We are letting you go during a pandemic and record unemployment. But don't worry, it is good for you.

The Office Reaction GIF

My company is about to lay off 10,000 people.  I will almost certainly be one of them and it has crossed my mind that it is good for me.  The remaining folks are going to be worked to insanity.

I doubt any laid off personnel would say it was good for them in this jobs market climate.

Nothing for them to do? Maybe see that as an opportunity to train them to do something else. Do what it takes to keep good people around until this all clears up.

Unless, of course, he wanted to get rid of them anyways because thats what he wanted to do. Which is fine, it is his team.

I know a few folks who were “laid off” from the Panthers...and they all agree it was good for them. The Cares Act bills gave them far more money as a “laid off” employee than they would have received otherwise.

It was for those laid off.  Making $2800 a month sitting home was better for an hourly employee

Tepper didn’t become a billionaire by not having business sense. It may sound harsh but he has to do what he thinks is best.

He needs to learn to be honest.  Saying it was better for someone to lose their job, their insurance, in an economy where decent jobs are now hard to find is such an asinine statement.  If he thought it was good for the employee he should have let that person make the decision. Just pure BS.

Benefit...having an income...health insurance.

    • One thing this has shown me is just how crazy things can get so quickly. I'm not talking about the flooding and trees down and that stuff. I'm talking about people. A lot of folks just fall apart pretty damn quickly. People were pulling guns on each other hours into a power outage over access to gas pumps. Stores were getting robbed because everything was cash only so they were cash rich easy targets. If these new tropical storms forming end up tracking through this area poo is going to go from bad to apocalyptic.

    • I am optimistic because Canales actually seems like an NFL caliber head coach and Morgan seems to be a NFL caliber GM, which is something the Panthers haven’t had in a long time. I’m not optimistic because the QB situation is FAR from settled. But at the very least they seem to have finally hit on the administration.
