Should be back for the first game but still...

Replacing Greg Olsen at tight end is not going to be easy for the Carolina Panthers and now, the guy that is expected to fill in as his replacement, Ian Thomas, is out with an injury.

Panthers head coach Matt Rhule briefly provided an update on Thomas' status and the severity of the injury.

"Ian hurt his toe at the end of the last practice. I think they MRI'd it and it was nothing serious, just a hyperextended toe so he should hopefully be back. Depending on how his rehab goes, he should be back here pretty soon."

Should Thomas get back in time for the start of the regular season, he is expected to be the no. 1 tight end on the depth chart. If he is not able to go, Chris Manhertz would be the next guy in line followed by Temarrick Hemingway.

During the first two years of Thomas' career, he has hauled in 52 receptions for 469 yards and three touchdowns.

Our weakest position on Offense just got FAR worse.

If we lose a middle Linebacker , we will be struggling to win ONE game.

Out with injury? Picking up right where Olsen left off I see lol

In all seriousness, I am very high on Thomas this year. Hope he is ready to roll week 1. Think he is in store for a big season if he can stay healthy.

I had turf toe four years ago and my toe has never been right since. Pretty much constant low grade pain and stiffness.

I got turf toe playing high school football about 20 years go. Took me about 6 months to heal. Feels fine 90% of the time but then 2-3 a year, I’ll hit a specific spot and feel a sharp pain almost collapse worthy and stiffness in the exact spot I had it. It will be sore for a week.

It’s weird because I work out hard with weights and cardio but this only happens until some random stroll where I step on a rock or stick. I’m convinced it never completely heals.

Turf toe is no joke.

Echo the toe injuries. I did some jackass stuff on a tricycle going down a hill. In efforts to save my cousin during a wipe-out, my right big toe took out a divot like a full 9 iron swing. Years past by and that toe is still bigger than the left one. Plus it doesnt bend as far as the left either. Hurts when the weather changes at times or being stressed. Toes have similar effects to a back injuries, just wrecks you.

I'd much rather have that injury at HS age than in my mid-30s when I had it. Then again, I'd rather have it in my mid-30s than my mid-40s. Healing ability seems to start declining at an exponential rate after your early 20s in my experience.
