Nope. It is one marker the league has designated to recognize players worth and 2/3rds of the vote is made by coaches and players. Maybe you need to do some research but the again why start now.

Go back and look at the years kk and teddy made the pro bowl like you like to brag about.  See how they made it in.

It would be stupid to release him this year with over 40 million of deaad cap space already. It keeps going back to the whole tanking/rebuilding argument. And of course a GM does what the owner wants him to do. I am sure he tells Rhule and Tepper what he thinks but ultimately only a fool would go against the guy who can hire or fire you. And if you get players your coach doesn't want or doesn't think they got his scheme, they won't play or contribute as he would like. Do you really think the Game job is to do his own thing regardless of what the owner or coach want?

But again this is nothing new and you have the same 3 or 4 rants you go on everytime the topic gets brought up. No one is saying Hurney is the greatest but he isn't nearly as bad as you critics make him out to be. Any anyone such as Tepper who disagrees is suddenly a terrible owner.  So I am going to move on. Clearly the Panthers don't agree and honestly their opinion is the only that matters right now. So feel free free to be triggered and rant. It makes such a difference. LOL.

Ugh. His cap hit is over $19M for 2020. We’d actually save $13M this year. Who gives a crud if our dead cap number goes up $6.5M when his $19.5M cap hit vanishes. For simple math we would save a net $13M this year and $13.5M next year. Again there is dead cap in every players cap hit even if they are on the team. It’s just not called dead cap on a web site, that’s it. That’s why at the start of contracts the cap hits appear to be less than what players actually get paid and appear to be more in later years. The bonuses paid don’t ever go away they just spread and that’s why restructuring to a bonus means more salary becomes guaranteed and will hit the cap and can’t be vanished with a release.

How about you stop getting triggered by any pessimism towards your perfect GM. It must be fun just living in an alternate reality where the team that your GM put together hasn’t sucked balls the past two years. And yes, a good GM should stand up for himself and have input in the draft. Good GMs build up trust that they can select good players. I can get an administrative assistant to call in picks if that’s all he does. Save some money.

I’m never triggered by folks like you. Like some others, I come here to discuss things not just support a 5-11 fiasco and say All’s Well while watching the ship sink. Time to put you on ignore. If you can’t discuss things that’s too bad. I’m just glad Rhule and Co. came in and took over for your hero this draft so we didn’t get any Littles, Dontes, Haynes, Gauldens, Griers, trade ups, Scarletts, etc.

Wasn't the Trai Turner deal already in final phase and when DG was let go, MH finished it?

Pretty sure it was all but signed. That said, Turner being traded added his money to dead cap. I think if you held him for 2020, we would have saved about $3M overall from Okung who’s more expensive this year. I don’t think there was anymore dead money after this year or maybe just a little since it would be the last year.

This was a very good year to shed the dead money from the books, the problem many of us have, is that we are sorta doing that...not fully mind you, but sorta.

Kinda like a 5 win team would do.  This should be the year to shed as much dead money as possible, instead we are going about it halfway...like usual.

Agreed. Shed Turner but add Okung. Shed Cam, add Teddy. Let FAs walk but lose back the top two comp picks. Just go for it or go full rebuild. Based on our rankings I’d go for the latter.

Gettleman did the contract for 80 million for 5 years not Hurney. All Hurney did was rework the 2019 cap hit from 18 million to a lower number. Only someone with an agenda would blame Hurney for restructuring a contract with almost a 20 million cap hit for a DT 2 years after he was signed. And Gettleman is the one who gave him a contract averaging 16 million not Hurney.

By converting salary to bonus creating more guaranteed money and more dead cap tying us to Short for at least another season. The "Hurney classic".

I said release him this year. Restructuring added another $4M in “dead” money so yes it made it harder to release him in a rebuilding year. 2020 and 2021 Short contract years are on Hurney. It was a 3 year deal, which was smart based on Short’s age and all the extra money Marty spent last year (pre-Rhule) turned it into a 4+ year deal. Not sure why that’s hard to understand. And no, we did not “need” to restructure Short’s deal in year 3. It was only done to be able to add a lot of dollars for other FAs.

Aw, my low intelligence isn’t saying positive things about the drafts that Marty butchered before Rhule took over and Short who has 3 sacks in two years and is 100% not in a 3-5 year plan.

Also, you really want me to say positive things about a yes man? WTF is the point of a yes man? A good GM finds good players and doesn’t just rubber stamp coaches picks which may not be good for the team. He’s not a good GM, especially if he just does what he’s told. That’s why pre-Rhule, post Gettleman has been a black hole of talent suck from the team.

This is like Intellectual Dishonesty 101.  If it's a move he likes, it's Rhule.  If it's a move he doesn't like, it's Hurney.  If I'm interpreting this correctly, Hurney was solely in charge of all the rogue offseason moves he hated this year (trade for Okung, signing Bridgewater, retaining Short) with no input from Rhule, but the draft was solely Rhule's, with no input from Hurney.  Can someone explain this logic to me?  Why wouldn't Rhule also be in charge of the offseason moves if Hurney is some kind of puppet yes man?

Speaking of which...yes man?  For closely coordinating with your coach on draft picks?  I'd like to see what kind of toxic war room has the GM going rogue like "Naw b@#%$! I am taking THIS guy and you better find out how to use him."  It's ALWAYS a collaborative effort...that went for the Hurney/Fox era, the Hurney/Rivera era, the Gettleman/Rivera era, and that goes now for the Hurney/Rhule era.  I'd imagine in 95% of cases across every team, if there's a disagreement on who to draft, then logically you would defer to the coach who is COACHING the player and dictating the scheme.  To think the GM is more in tune with who is a "better fit" for the team over the head coach is just downright silly.  But obviously.....and this shouldn't come across as a "hot take".....GMs and coaches work together to build the draft board.

That was just an all-around weird post.

I get the extra 4 million in dead cap but considering we have over 40 million in dead cap this year and will have tons of cap space next year, we could dump him in 2021 and save 9 million in cap or make it a  post June 1 cut next year and have a pretty small dead cap hit in 2021 if the cap goes way down due to Covid 19. But I don't think we had an opportunity to cut him this year whether we had restructured him or not. Too many other folks got dumped.

    • I see only 1 deep pass since we were told that only 40+ yards count 😜   In all seriousness tho, Dalton's been slinging it. He's let a couple of the short throws get away from him but he wasn't lying when he said he was playing more loose than he ever has. Gotta think that he's having himself a lot of fun this season so far.
