The curse of the Carolina Panthers MLB position hit him hard, always liked Morgan.

*thumps him in the head with a broom handle.*

Stop all this talk about curses. That's superstitious nonsense and we don't say those kinds of things around here. The evil spirits will hear you, so cut it out.

His career was too short, as said earlier he would be the 4th MLB at best to play for the Panthers.

The crazy thing is that ain't even a bad thing. Despite our young franchise and sporadic at best success, we've had ridiculous talent at MLB. I'd out our top 4 up against just about anyone else's outside of the Bears.

Yea it wasn't meant as slight to Morgan.  Talent wise he is right there or maybe better than Beason, but in terms of impact to the team, I would put Beason ahead of him.  As far as op goes, there are many panthers who should get in before Morgan in my opinion.

slightly different circumstances. just a little.

The comment was in relation to a statement that Morgan did not play here long enough to enter the hall of honor.

Do you know when Mills was admitted to the hall of honor and when he was diagnosed with cancer?

A:  Admitted to hall of honor in 1998, diagnosed with Cancer in 2003, died 2005.

The statue is for the cancer and all he represents to the franchise--but the hall of honor had nothing to do with it.  Morgan played in 59 games over 7 seasons here, Mills played 48 games in Carolina.

Dan Morgan working for the Bills should not and will not have anything to do with him making the hall of honor. With that said dan Morgan does not belong in my opinion and if he does eventually get in, he’s on a list behind the likes of Julius peppers, Luke Kuechly, Thomas Davis, Charles Johnson, Jonathan Stewart, Mike minter, Mike Rucker, Michael Bates, John Kasay, Greg Olsen, Chris Gamble, Kris Jenkins, Muhsin Muhammad, Ryan Kalil, and Kevin Greene.

I know it is wrong to say it now, but I have a bit of a problem with Mills making it--he played here 3 seasons and was good--but he will be remembered as a Saint.   His numbers were impressive, but not hall of honor great.   The statue? Certainly.  He was an inspiration and his spirit and respect for the game still live in the Panthers...but not hall of honor.  I realize that is not a popular opinion, but you have to define what the hall of honor represents (criteria) before wanting to put every feel good story in it.

Sam Mills was THE first notable Panther. He was the face of the franchise for those first three years. Every luncheon, every fundraiser, every fan event, Sam Mills was front and center. He was the most respected player on the team and one of the most in the NFL at the time. He also had the two most iconic plays for the Panthers in their first two seasons, with the game sealing pick against the cowboys and the TD against the Jets. He was just a perfect perfect dude for the team.

Dan Morgan, though he played more games, was not that. Sam Mills retired and was immediately kept on by the team because of how important he was to the organization. Dan Morgan went to the saints, then failed to open a pizza restaurant.

And hell they had to put someone up there besides Mike McCormack.

I think this is one of the fundamental problems with any attempt to say who should or should not be in it. AFAIK there really is no criteria other than whoever the owner wants. For Jerry that was Mike McCormack, Sam Mills and.....Mike McCormack.  Tepper appears to have a bar that seems to my mind a bit more reasonable given the first class that went in this past season under his watch. It might actually be a bit too low imo, but therein lies the rub. With no set criteria, it's pretty much left up to everyone's interpretation.

How long do they have to have played?

Does their career have to be only or primarily for the Panthers?

How much of it is pure onfield achievement and how much is off field character, community involvment etc etc.?

Do non football career things get taken into account like coaching or working for another team's FO?

If Jimmy cracks corn and I don't care, why bother to write a song about it?

Sorry that last one was just me. But you get the point. It's too open to everyone's personal interpretation. But it does make for some fun forum fodder.
