If Bridgewater has a good showing this season...(an exercise in critical thinking and problem solving)

Man, I have never even heard of Trey Lance until this thread.  Dude is an animal!  At least at NDSU, against lesser competition he is.  The ZERO ints as a Freshman is very intriguing.  He kinda reminds me of a little baby Cam.

Lots and Lots of potential here with this guy.

Here's a list of SB winning QB's:

Bart Starr
Joe Namath
Len Dawson
Johnny Unitas
Roger Staubach
Bob Griese
Terry Bradshaw
Ken Stabler
Jim Plunkett *
Joe Montana

Joe Theismann **
Jim McMahon *
Phil Simms **
Doug Williams *
Jeff Hostetler *
Mark Rypien
Troy Aikman
Steve Young
Brett Favre
John Elway
Kurt Warner
Trent Dilfer *
Tom Brady
Brad Johnson *
Ben Roethlisberger **
Peyton Manning **
Eli Manning **
Drew Brees **
Aaron Rodgers **
Joe Flacco *
Russell Wilson **
Nick Foles *
Patrick Mahomes **

Players with no * at all beside their name are Hall of Fame players.  Players with ** are players who were CLEAR franchise QB's who either didn't quite make the HoF grade or still playing / not yet eligible for HoF.  Players with one * are the JAG QB's who have won a SB.

Winning a SB is far, far more likely with a true franchise QB.  36 of 54 SB's have been won by QB's who ended up in the HoF or WILL end up in the HoF (Brady, Manning, Rodgers).  The number goes up to a ridiculous 44 of 54 when you add in the franchise QB's (Theismann, Simms, Roethlisberger, Manning #2, Brees, Wilson)

Nearly as interesting is the list of SB losing QB's . . . tons of JAG's.  Generally, the only thing that beats a franchise QB in the SB is another franchise QB.

There is NO WAY you pass on a franchise QB in the draft.  There is no position on the field that gives you a better chance.

He's super intriguing. I don't know what to make of him. Yeah, the competition level is a concern, but Carson Wentz has shown that an NDSU QB can make the jump. The only knock on him has been his durability which has nothing to do with his college competition level.

The plus side of Bridgewater is that he seems to be a team friendly player and willing to accept his role whether he is the starting QB or backup. If he plays well but the Panthers end up with a top pick, I suggest they take Lance or Lawrence but keep Teddy as a high level backup. I am not a big fan of Fields because Ohio State QBs (Troy Smith, Pryor, JT Barrett, Cardale Jones, Braxton Miller, etc.) tend to put up big numbers in college but their games tend not to translate when they no longer have the best WRs, RBs, or O-line in their arsenal.

Finally, on a side note I don't buy into the narrative of a "can't miss" prospect like Lawrence and hoping that the team tanks. I have not seen the evidence of consistent losing and acquiring top 5 picks (Jaguars and Browns recently) to benefit a team in the long run.

Browns Draft a new franchise QB every other year

They historically have waited though. They have a top pick and trade down or take a QB in the back of the 1st round. That’s what I meant about getting cute. The first one they took straight up was Mayfield. Which was rough last year but may still pan out.

70% completion rate?  Come on man.

I would bet just about anything that with Teddys history, lack of playing a ton of games and our oline that he misses some significant time this season.  I just dont think anyone even within the organization see him as a long term solution for a myriad of reasons.

Wel, he does have a 67.9% career completion percentage. 70 is not inconceivable!
