Question on player salary

The way I understand how a player receives his salary is X dollars per game.  If we don't have 16 games does that mean the players do not receive their full pay?  My concern is for the new players.

Player compensation basically gets broken up into 3 types: Signing bonuses, which are received when the contract is signed and represent the only guaranteed money, various bonuses triggered by things, some super easy like being on the roster, some not so much like making the pro bowl etc.. The third compensation is annual salary, which is broken down per game. How much of a player's compensation is this third component depends upon their contract and how long they have been in the league. Rookies tend to have pretty standardized contracts for their first few years that weight things towards this third type, so yeah, they got some concerns there.

I have no idea how the exact wording of the CBA might impact this or whether the owners will balk at paying players regardless of CBA if there are no games. We'll just have to see. I will say only that I would not bank on both sides being reasonable and swiftly working things out.

Pretty hard to feel sorry even for the new players and fringe guys. They’re making wayyyyy more than most just to play a game

A game they busted their ass for years to have the chance to play professionally. Don't get me wrong, tons of people have it way worse, but there is no cap on sympathy. I can sympathize with both.

Some have busted their ass for years, some haven’t.

Jeremy couldn't have explained it better.  Thanks.  I hope the rookies get paid.

That's been a debate for a long time.  You play and get big money but if you don't invest and spend wisely.......you're out of luck.  I do agree the money is skewed.
