Some darts have way more potential than others like a guy who did well at Texas, has the size for 3-4 or 4-3 DE and shined Senior Bowl week against solid OL prospects. That’s the dart we talked about in pre-draft and during the draft.  The whole it’s not the first round so it’s a crap shoot is what separates good teams from bad teams.

So glad the coaches basically took over this year. No crazy reaches like Little, Gaulden and Grier. Those three were 1 2nd and 3 3rds combined. SMH.

I’m not even really disagreeing. I want Marty gone years ago. But still, it’s a 5th round pick. You want to find players there but most teams don’t.

I agree with the point you made but I also think sometimes this board has unrealistic expectations for players drafted in rounds 5-7. You really aren’t even trying to draft starters in those rounds. You are looking for depth at that point. But some people act like a 5th round pick that doesn’t pan out is a bust and Marty messed up. That’s not really a fair criticism, especially for someone who does have so many legitimate things you could criticize

Yeah but its cool to criticize him with everything that goes wrong, and give credit to others when they go right.

I understand on the picks hitting and as you said the unrealistic expectations. If we hadn’t talked in here pre draft about Omenihu I probably wouldn’t care. I want Marty gone as well even though I think he was 99% yes man in this draft. His biggest issue IMHO is locking in on a handful of players (and falling in love) and not deviating when other solid players drop. That’s why you get reaches and why it seems like everyone knows who we love. I don’t think he’s willing to let it play out. He had to jump up for Little and he thought other teams might snag Grier even though an objective view point would have showed that Little would have been there at 47 and shucks if someone nabbed him we might have lucked into a better player in McCoy.

I only point out the Scarlett mistake because I talked a lot about how dumb it was of us to pass on a DL who looked solid and fit either front in the 5th. Sometimes you luck into a guy who dropped for some unknown reason and we didn’t deviate from the game plan and wasted a pick. If he’s CMC’s backup then it’s not a waste, it’s just an OK pick. If you waive a draft pick after one year it was a waste and the GM’s fault. We have thrown away picks the past two years and that gets you to where we are the quickest.

It sure is. If you participated in all the predraft threads you might find that we all let it be known right there and then what we thought should have been done. Unfortunately, in the 2018 and 2019 Marty shows, there were a bunch of just gaffes. You can try to defend them but our picks had mountain sized holes in some of them. Need speed, gotta get Donte but for some reason draft the least athletic DB a round later, need to pay attention to analytics gotta get  Little, Miller and Grier because PFF had them rated highly even though Little looked like hot garbage at the combine next to the OL taken right before and after who all started as rookies and look to be multi-year starters.

I’m so glad it looks like Rhule and co took over this year’s draft. Not saying all the picks will work out, but there weren’t any head slappers.

All signs point to poor work ethic .

Matt dont abide that.

you know what?

I hope he actually made plays in practice and looked good, and Matt Rhule cut his ass because of "loafing" aka laziness and bad work ethic. I feel the message it sends to the team is worth a 5th in of itself.
