Hard to call a 5th rounder a wasted pick. When you whiff in those first three rounds is when it really hurts.

Some fans seemed to have gotten so used to Hurney that they believe anything after the first round is a throw away pick/toss of the dice anyways. It’s sad.

I for one cannot wait for this team to cut ties with Marty for good. That said, 5th round picks not panning out is hardly a Marty issue. Look at the success rate of 5th rounders throughout the entire league. It’s rare they stick around more than a couple of seasons

I agree, but Igo is sarcastically referencing fans who believe using a third on Grier, our solid back up to the back up QB, was a waste of relatively decent draft capital and of course a dumbass move by Hurney who again jumps on the hometown hero.

IMO, the entire draft is a crap shoot, and that has nothing to do with Hurney.  The odds are definitely better in the first, but even those are not sure things. Cant find the article now, but a year or so ago, I read an article about survival rate for all NFL draft picks over a specific period of time.  30% of first round picks were out of the NFL after four years.  For second round picks, the numbers were in the 60% range.  For third round picks, the numbers are around 80%.   And these numbers don't take into account guys who are still in the NFL, but were considered disappointments by the team that drafted them (for example Eli Apple). That is why imo, it is better to have a large number of picks to improve the teams odds of success.
