Hornets pick 3rd!!!

.Just my opinions on the 3 spot.

James Wiseman is a beast.  But Do Not want him.  Nothing against him but this has become a guards league.  And the bust rate is MUCH higher on bigs high in the draft.

Here are All the top 10 Centers/7footers types drafted the last 10 years.

2019:
Jaxson Haynes- 8th overall avg 7 and 4

2018:
Deandre Ayton- 1st, avg 18 and 11 (solid)
Mohamed Bamba- 6th overall12 and 10
Wendell Carter Jr- 7th, avg 11 and 9

2017
Zach Collins- 10th, 7 and 6

2016
Dragan Bender- 4th overall 9 and 4
Jakob Poltl- 9th overall, 5 and 5
Thon Maker- 10th overall, 4 and 2

2015

KAT- Franchise guys. 2x all-star
Jahlil Okafor- 3rd, 8 and 4
Porizingis- 4th overall, 1 time all-star
Cauley-Stein: 6th, 5 and 4
Frank Kaminsky: 9th overall, need I say more.

2014:

Joel Embid- 3rd overall, essentially didnt play the first few season as they tanked. 3x all-star

2013:
Zeller: 3rd overall
Alex Len- 4th overall, 8 and 5
Nerlens Noel- 6th overall, 8 and 5. Was hyped very similar to Wiseman, big shot blocker who needs to improve on offense.

2012:
AD- 1st overall, Franchise, 7× all-star
Andre Drummond- 9th overall 2x all-star

2011:
Enes Kanter- 3rd overall 12 and 10 guy
Jan Vesely: 6th overall, 4 and 3 already out of the league
Jonas Valanciunas- 5th, 14 and 10
Bismak Biyombo- 7th, 5 and 5 guy

2010:
Demarcus Cousins- 5th overall, 20 and 10 guy, really good, but not a guy who you build a franchise around. Sacramento tried. 4x all-star
Ekpe Udoh- 6th overall, 2 and 2 guy
Greg Monroe- 7th overall,10 and 6

2009:
Hasheem Thabeet- 2nd overall, 1 and 2
Jordan Hill- 8th overall, 8 and 6 guy

So 2 out of 28 (just over 7%) are face of the Franchise guys teams could build around (AD and KAT both whom were cant miss #1 overall guys).

2 others were all-star that teams tried to build around but were unsuccessful and eventually just traded away to become another side piece to another super star (Cousins and Porzingis)

1 other became an all-star bit again wasnt able to build a winning franchise and traded away (Drummond)

This is a guards/wing league.  So that high, you need to get that stud Guard/Wing over the big in the top 5 (unless you already have a star there, see Ayton when they have Booker).

In addition, If you dont already have a superstar.  You need to try to swing for one if your drafting this high.

Id rather get a FA Center (like a Whiteside) and getting that stud young guard/wing vs a solid big man "piece" then try to find that star wing.

Anthony Edwards is a beast- reminds me of a taller Donovan Mitchell.  Pairing him with Graham would be a dream.  But dont see him falling to 3.

The Israeli kid, I really like.  A Doncic light.

But if we dont get Edwards,  Ball is who I want.

Not popular, but he is exactly what we need.  Ball reminds me of a less athletic Ben Simmons.  Great passer, handler, and a much better shooter than his brothers And Simmons.

He's not the best defender, but most kids his age coming out are good defenders.  That goes down to the AAU circuit.

Having him running the Point with Graham's scoring and shooting ability.  Then Bridges and PJ spreading the floor.  This team would be fun.

Ball, Graham, Bridges, Washington, FA would be a nice lineup.

Embiid in play?

he has 3 yrs at $95m left on his deal

They've gotta deal either him or Simmons.  Can't believe I'm saying it, but I might prefer Simmons.  Embiid is a Top 5 player when he wants to be. I just don't know if he'll ever consistently want to be.

Don't know who we may target, but the Hornets are in a great spot trade wise.  Batum's contract is finally an attractive trade piece to, #3 pick, and a few nice young players. Could see some teams clearing space in lieu of the Giannis Sweepstakes, or even just a player like Myles Turner whose team wants to get out from under his deal.

I do like the kid but he reminds me so much of Lonzo.

Don't get too caught up in the name.  About all the two share are a father, excellent size/length, and passing ability.  Despite mediocre results in the NBA, Lonzo could actually shoot at the college level and he's also a good defender.  Lamelo hasn't shown he can shoot (which bodes very poorly for his chances in the NBA) and is one of the worst defenders you could imagine. He just doesn't have the athleticism and side to side foot speed to stick in front of his man.  Put it all together and if you're still willing to make a comparison between the two, Lamelo is a poor man's Lonzo.  Considering Lonzo is just a role player in the league, I wouldn't touch Lamelo in the lottery.  He'd be worth taking a flier on late in Round 1 in case he can sort out his shot, but even then, I don't view him as more than a solid contributor considering he's so bad on defense.

Been watching hornets highlights to gather needs.   Well what I have uncovered is that Malik Monk is a fuggin superhero waiting to happen.  He would be the best player in this draft.  Damn gotta get him engaged, he is amazing.  Damn.

Obi Toppin is Paul Milsap .. I don't want a Paul Milsap type player with a top 3 pick.. Try to get a player who has a chance to be a superstar and franchise building block... We have enough undersize PF who aren't great at defense rebounding and rim protection  on the roster..

Malik Monk is a better prospect than Donavan Mitchell.  Really isn't close...but Donavan Michell wants it more.  Hopefully we take that desire into account

Donavan was a two way player who was bigger and had better handles.. Malik is a great athlete and scorer but Mitchell was the better prospect..
