Virtually all contracts are back loaded. Where Hurney gets himself in trouble is when he takes those back loaded contracts and restructures them to convert base salary to bonus money freeing up cap space in the short-term by spreading the dollars out across the length of the contract but at the very steep cost of creating more guaranteed money and dead cap space in the event that you need to part with a player. He hasn't learned his lesson on that one and it's why Short is still here.

I'm aware that they are almost always backloaded, however I would prefer to not do so, or at the very least keep the guaranteed money paid out in the first couple of years...even if it is tough on the cap.

And yes, his penchant for restructuring has just about driven me mad through the years.  We ALL know it's a bad idea, but he keeps right on keeping on.

Take a look at what the Bills just gave Dion Dawkins, thats how much we're gonna give Moton

Thats really not a bad deal for a franchise LT.  Probably isnt too bad for Moton if he balls out this year

To save anyone, like myself, that didn't know about the Bills a google search"

Buffalo Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins has agreed to a $60 million contract extension through the 2024 season, the team announced Thursday.

Drafting OTs has gotten so weird in the last decade. No one thought Dawkins was an NFL OT. Everyone had him moving inside to OG. Most thought he was a late round draft pick and when the Bills traded to draft him in the late 2nd the move was widely mocked and laughed at. Well... no one's laughing now.

Even more fun facts about those restructurings.

If the Panthers decide to pay KK Short 28M over the next 2 years, they still have to eat 4.7M in dead cap in 2022 because of the voidable years that they added in the restructure

And Matt Paradis is similar. Even after paying him 14M over the next 2 years, he will still take 3.6M in dead capon 2022. It’s only 7.2M if they cut him after last season.

But be positive......I’m sure it’s going to be alright.

Can we not trade one of them?

This is good news.  I dont think Moton is a great RT but he is probably above average and its imperative to sign him if we are going to build a competent oline moving forward.

I would take a above average line over any Rivera fielded in a minute.

When did everyone here cool off so much on Moton? Felt like he was considered nearly elite at RT and even a serviceable at LT until this thread.

He is a solid RT with possible pro bowl potential. The team was just dog doo last year. Everyone blames everyone.

It became cool for the vocal minority on this forum to hate everything Panthers.
