All aboard the Teddy Train...

Lol. I'm on the Trevor train now. Can't ride both.

Looking forward to our next real QB. As Panthers fans we have seen many stopgaps before and after Delhomme and before and NOW after Cam. We know a backup when I see one. Dude couldn't beat old man Brees for the job and wasn't in contention for being the next N.O. QB. All of a sudden he's a world beating starter. You guys....

Wake me up when we're playing for real football. It's a rebuild.

Teddy Bridgewater is never going to be prime Cam Newton. Don't throw shade at Teddy for not being an elite talent and don't throw shade at Teddy if he doesn't perform as well as Cam did or does. You can crush management and ownership all you like but if you turn on Teddy to come in here hyping up Cam and cheering for the Pats, go ahead and burn your Panthers fan card. We don't need you or want you.

i just wanna focus on this because I hear it a lot.  comparing Teddy to Cam is apples to oranges.  they are completely different players with different strengths and weaknesses.  for example, Cam Newton is a physical monster.  Cam Newton has unbelievable physical talent.  When all gears are firing one can argue no one in the NFL comes close.  However Cam is the most injury-prone football player in the NFL in recent years.  Cam Newton is not a great leader.  He's not even a good one.  and here's the one that'll really piss people off.  Cam Newton is mentally weak.  Cam Newton should've crushed those Broncos in the Super Bowl, but he completely psyched himself out in the 2 weeks leading to the game.  He totally collapsed under the pressure, you could see with every interview.  Make as many excuses as u want, the Panthers should've won that game as the best team in the NFL by a mile that year.  And we've seen this multiple collapses several times over the years, don't deny it.

Teddy is not a physical monster nor does he have incredible physical talent.  However he's as smart as a whip and considered by most of his past coaches as a cerebral QB.  Teddy is disciplined, quick thinking too.  And most importantly Teddy brings a lot of intangibles with his life and upbringing.  his leadership is at an elite level, and had basically absorbed the entire Saints org in weeks despite Drew Brees being their leader for more than a decade.  Teddy is also mentally strong and has endured a lot and risen to the occasion constantly, most notably by overcoming an unbelievably devastating injury.  My point is a head to head between Cam and Teddy doesn't make sense.  Cam would dominate 5 events, Teddy would dominate 5 events.  you're comparing chocolate ice cream to a ribeye steak.  they're not the same, not comparable.  And don't mistake this for some kind of bias, Cam's one of my favorite players and i hope he kills it in New England and proves the naysayers wrong, but i also love Teddy and i've seen his entire career from the front row and I know the magic he can make.  but u can't expect the same kinds of things from Teddy that you get from Cam, other than wins.

Panther fans have been driving a sports car for so long, you keep thinking you need a porsche, corvette, or a viper.  what you have now is a top of the line BMW.  it's completely different and by the time you finally accept that its a different automobile, you will learn to love it.

There is really no comparison because one is an elite talent and the other is an above average game manager.

Unfortunately the elite talent just wasn't protected enough to stay healthy.

I am not sure I would throw the "mentally weak" dart at Cam considering the amount of game winning drives he has authored in his career. He didn't shine bright when the lights were ultimately the brightest and that may end up haunting his legacy.

Way I look at it, Teddy B will probably not be as good as Cam in his prime, but will absolutely be an upgrade over Allen and whoever else we had last year. He has the potential to be the 2nd best QB in team history. I’d say right now he’s on par with Delhomme.

One can only hope.

I look forward to the flood of we were wrong about Teddy posts from you and others this season.  the same kind of posts Saints fans made during his 5-0 run who made similar generalizations, and Jets fans made after his stellar preseason that made the Saints trade for him in the first place.  oh, well...

The new highly sought after high powered offense simply does not win championships.

Over the last 10-15 years the SB contenders averaged a much higher ranked defense than than offense.

That said, almost every one of them also fielded a top oline.

A top defense and top oline are almost all you need to make a run, the rest are details. And for this reason, the Panthers have a long way to go.

Also note that many of those contenders did a lot of investing in their oline, draft or making SMART, moves in FA that paid off building it up. As this is the most significant similarity and seemingly hardest thing to achieve also just so happens to be the thing panther organization’s biggest weakness and ineptness is pretty concerning.

2015 is easily the best sample we have for teddy. 20th in yards per attempt, 12th in interception percentage, 31st in touchdown percentage. teddy has never led a team at the professional level. he has however been “all aboard” someone else’s train. fell off the train in minnesota following a catastrophic non contact injury.

as for new orleans, i’m reminded of the time that a 34 year old luke mccown stepped into that system and threw for over 300 yards, completing over 80% of his attempts on the 2015 panthers defense despite having only started 2 games over the previous 7 seasons. the only other time luke mccown threw for over 300 yards in his career was in 2007 against the saints, a defense that ranked 30th overall in passing yards allowed and dead last in net yards per attempt.
