Let's not jump to conclusions here.  He could still have plenty of money.  Writing bad checks is just 1 bank account, he could have multiple.

More like $10ish. The gov took 50% and his agent took 10%.
 

Regardless, you could live an amazing life just off 5% interest.

Writing Bad checks is old school . 
I used to do the same in the 90’s and got that bank fee that put me in the minus $$.even more.

I read about a fourth of nfl AND premier league players file for bankruptcy within five years of their carrier. 

Some people just cannot hold on to money, especially if the people around you help you spend it rather than set you up long term. Throw in a little "I'm the man and gonna make millions next year anyway" (fueled by everyone around you) after it is really over, it is not surprising really.
