Actually, they could, be is older. He had an embolism. Serious stuff.  Most GMs would not have touched and certainly not in exchange for Turner

no our Marty. Come over down Russell

Reminds me of Elway saying last year that they weren’t even considering bringing Paradis back. SMH. I’m so glad the coaching staff appeared to have taken over the draft because it’s moves like these that make you wonder why he’s our GM.

So... we basically cut Trai?

It's why that trade made zero sense to me once we moved on from Cam. If you were trying to make a push with Cam, it made sense. If you're rebuilding, trade him for draft assets not a LT nearing the end of his career in a rental contract.

The talk was Trai and Newton were good friends, they wanted no locker room issues. Trai’s play had also fallen off for various reasons.

Bingo. I was perfectly fine moving on from Trai. He honestly wasn't playing up to his contract and looked sloppy fat last year. But I would've much rather traded him for draft assets to build around, not an aging LT on a one year contract who had serious health concerns. I don't blame him if he retires, he's gotta do what's best for him. It was just a stupid move from a GM who is prone to stupid moves. Nothing about any of this should be surprising to anyone.

How? The trade was March. Pro days were being cancelled and we were getting close to lockdowns and shutting down schools. A heart issue is one of the reasons why a player would opt out. There’s a difference between seeing it coming and being smart enough to realize that they were trading for one of the few people in the NFL who you’d say should sit out.

Nobody in the world could’ve predicted on March 4th how the coronavirus would play out. And we still can’t. I was going to live games later than that in March.

Read the link I just posted. The author mentions specifically the risk of Okung retiring because of the heart issue. So yes, Hurney should have been aware that there was a big risk that if CV was around that he’d retire.

The trade was in March. CV was already in the US and we went on lockdown in NC two weeks later. Let’s not act like this trade was done without realizing it was a risk. Pretty sure pro days and travel was already stopping. A guy with a life threatening heart issue is very much a guy who would opt out for health reasons. Pretty sure Okung is a perfect example of a guy risking a lot if he gets it.

You mean he should have known in March that we wouldnt have a preseason, stadiums will be mostly empty and there would be no preseason? If you remember the dialogue being put out by the President it was going to disappear by May. It was all going away. I really doubt it was a big consideration that the Covid 19 would even be here in August and shut things down. And let's remember that Okung was completely recovered and there were no lingering problems. Your article incorrectly says he had a heart problem. He had a blood clot in his lungs which puts him at risk for a stroke not heart attack unless the blot clot was in an artery to the heart. It is actually fairly common and I know a number of my friends who had this which requires blood thinners but often people are fine if they stay on their medication. I am also sure he was given a green light by the doctors and medical experts who advice Hurney on what to do.

Is a pulmonary embolism in the past a big risk factor for Covid 19? Absolutely. So is being overweight, having high blood pressure or diabetes and a number of other factors. using that how many linemen are not at extra risk?

Is there ever a risk when you bring in folks with an injury history? Of course. But Hurney was most likely following the team's doctors advice so it is ridiculous to lay it all on him unless you have an agenda which you clearly do.

I actually agree. It's not fair to Hurney to say he should have seen Okung potentially retiring due to Covid.

However I do think it's fair to criticize Hurney for trading for an aging LT with injury concerns and who recently mulled retirement and not getting ANY draft picks for Trai Turner.

I'm looking at this as a trade for an injury prone player who is about to get diagnosed with a torn ACL before he plays a snap for us.

It was a bad trade before Rona ramped up and it's an even worse trade now.
